I got a used N64 and all the other crap in my Trading Post...um...post for cheap.
But the N64 Doesn't turn on. The light turns on, the cables are all fine, and I just cleaned the cartridge and A/V connectors with rubbing alcohol and a cloth. When I switch the power on, the white line flashes, telling me it's not completely dead.
Also, it doesn't work with the expansion pack or normal pack inserted.
I am unfamiliar with the n64 setup, so I come to you. Should I clean it more?
Is there a fuse in there somewhere that isn't part of the light circuit?
Any help will be appreciated.

Could be a short that blows the breaker in the PSU and that makes the pop.

My bad. I was imagining the pop from my SNES adventures. I don't know why. I'm tired.

do you know how to use a multimeter, if so open up the n64 and test all the traces, then you'll see which part is bad.

telling someone to "test all the traces" in a complicated piece of hardware is a little bit silly.
anyways, you'd still never know if any of the chips are fried.
ill look at it later though.

Well...this is rather embarrassing. I opened it up and everything looked dandy. So I tried it still to no avail. But lo-and-behold, I cleaned a game and tried, and it works fine. I guess the games didn't come from a smoke-free house.
