Game not working

Post by Thegamer3000 »

I've been playing my new portable N64 and I've noticed that the Legend of Zelda OT isn't working right. I'll be playing the game for a while and all of a sudden it will just stop. The pictures still there and the sound is still going but it just stops doing anything like it's frozen in time or something.

The weird thing is it isn't doing this with any other game... well It did do it with Mario Party 2 and Rogue Squadron but not near as much. I also have Super Mario 64 and it hasn't froze at all.

Also I'm not sure but I think it only does it when the expansion pack is in. But that doesn't make sense if all the other games work and Zelda doesn't even technicly take full advantage of it.

One thing that I think maybe causing it is when I fried the 2 N64s this game might have been in the system.

I've cleaned the game 5million times and I've cleaned the system. Does anybody know what the problem is?

Try swapping out the expansion pack if you think that's the problem.

Also, try formatting the game, if it lets you. Most games that don't use memory cards have it in the options menu somewhere.

OoT = bad testing game. Use some stupid game. But yeah, from my experience, frying n64's with games in them screws it up. Farewell Pokemon Stadium 2 and Starfox 64.

I feel sorry for the pokemon staduim 2. Tis worth a lot over here, I'd have to shell out £30 to get it said a guy in Gamestation.

I have confirmed that it is the expansion pack. When I use a normal one all my games work fine, in fact, I can't even get the expansion pack to work now.

Question: I had to completely take the expansion pack apart to get it to fit. I just left that piece of metal on the chip as the heatsink. Is that enough of a heat sink? I think when I hot glued it on it wasn't touching it completely.

Hot glue heatsinks = no.

You'll need a good heatsink from a cpu and a fan.

You can hot glue the heatsinks, just use the thick kind of hot glue, not the mini sticks. Put some thermal paste on the bottom of the heatsink, then put the heatsink on the chip and tack down the corners with a blob of hot glue. Then stick a fan in there somewhere to increase air flow.
