No, it's not just El Nino. It's also a warming pattern that's been going on for the past 30,000 years. Musta been all those cavemen driving hummers and releasing CFCs into the ozone layer... yeah, that's it.

Seriously, though, liberal myths of human-caused global warming aside, I have yet to make a snowman this year!

. We've got plenty of snow here in Michigan, but it's also been about -13 with windchill the past few days, and I'm sure people in my area here can vouch for that. Hey, on the bright side, we missed some school the past couple days!

We got about 4 inches, and 3 days of school, but I didn't even go outside. I hate cold.

1) How would coming out of an ice age be a explanation of rapid temperatue increases? It's not like the Earth has a giant switch for cold/hot that just gets clicked every so often.

2)The hole in the ozone lets more UV in, which does effect the planet. But the polution adds thickness to the atmosphere. The atmosphere reflects infrared light back to Earth, keeping a nice temperature. But when there is too much crud in the atmosphere, it relfects too much infared, causing a higher temperature. (Greenhouse effect, look it up!)
There is an informitive cartoon here.

3) The last "end" of the latest ice age was about 50,000 years ago. We are actualy about at the start of a new ice age. For all we know, it could have started already.

4) Please don't flame stuff you obvously know nothing about. It's not nice, and doesn't look very good.

I beg to differ Ozone Depletion. That cartoon talks about greenhouse gases which aren't ozone, ozone blocks UV rays, the Wikipedia articles say nothing about ozone having anything to do with infrared rays. And the ozone layer of the atmosphere is getting thinner, haven't you heard of the hole above Antarctica? It lets more UV rays in, which give you sunburns, but not more or less heat.

Yeah, thats better. I think its the greenhouse gases such as carbon-dioxide and methane that trap the most.

I'm not really understanding what you're saying, could you clarify? I'd check Wikipedia in all the articles having to do with the atmosphere, global warming, and related topics, thats usually a good way to find information.

on the topic of environmental change and global warming i suggest reading the book "State of Fear" by micheal crichton. the earth goes through warm and cool cycles on average about every 10k years or so, kinda like a mini iceage. yes people are damaging the environment but its more environmental damage than climate change.

I don't think so (is it even possible to change the wavelength?). This might explain it, but I'm tired, so I'll let you read it for yourself.

It's been in the 20's here for the past week and I haven't gotten any snow. It did snow earlier this winter though, but it turned into 6 inches of solid ice.
