Interesting LCD issue, any insight would be awesome.

Hey guys, I've been lurking around here for a littlewhile, reading the main page and I realized that this whole time there has been a wealth of knowledge here at anyones disposal. So in saying this HERE IS MY PROBLEM

. I have been waiting on the return of my digital camera from the repair shop to post this because I don’t think I could adequately describe my problem with out it actually being seen.

I got this LCD from my dad about 2 months ago and I have been racking my brain over what the problem could be. The monitor is a Daewoo 15 inch. The LCD screen is made by Samsung; I opened the case a few days ago and checked it all out.

I could not see any obvious damage, I couldn’t find bad or melted soldering points and all the wiring appeared to be secure. My dad tells me that one day he went to go on his computer and he was greeted with this.

Keep in mind two things.

1. The monitor is not plugged into a computer here, and even when it is, it does the exact same thing. There is absolutely no difference.

2. I am not looking to just throw this out, I have an interest in the technical side of things and I would love to repair it, or have it repaired I do not think the actual LCD screen is bad because it turns on.

Anyways here is it just powered on.

First thing I'd do is open it up to see if any wires are loose.

interesting... do individual lines show up at different times and stick, or is it constantly changing or what.

Yeah I did that, I was searching around the net and i noticed there was a particular model of HP lcds that had bad soldering and they were cutting out.

I opend it all up, took the whole thing apart, with in reason. I found nothing disconected. I wish I did.

And no, nothing changes it just stays like that and the control screen wont show up when i press the menu button, even when its hooked up to a computer it shows the same thing.

I had a laptop that did that, turns out the flat plastic ribbon cable that connects the controller board to the LCD was bent to the point of breaking. I'd guess it has come loose at either end.
Not much you can do to fix it.

But isint it unlikely that something like a ribbon cable could bend or come lose inside stationary screen?

its good sugestion but i dont think thats the case here, perhaps i should open it up and take photos of the circuts?

Lcd's sometimes have that problem when the ffc's break. But since yours was in the case I would say it is more likely that the controller IC went bad.

Ok well this is really good so far, im going to see what i can learn about this.

Is there any ways to go about fixing this?

It would kill me to know I through something out that was 90% good just because of one little part.

I just had the CCD sensor on my camera fixed and now I'm kind of enjoying this feeling lol
