Help with PS2 Slimline power issues

Ok , this is my first post on this site so don't flame me .

I discovered this site a couple of months back and started browsing and monitering the forums , let me say that the work ben and a lot of the people on the forum do is AMAZING.

Ok , now that that's out of the way let me move onto my problem.

When i started reading about all this portablizing business I was inspired and decided I was going to try and make one myself. I started gathering equipment including a slimline PS2 , but when i plugged it into the to the mains it didn't turn on at all . I thought that this was the power supply so i borrowed one from a friend but it was still not working. I thought something was shorting out the power but i checked over and couldn't find anything wrong with it. Anybody got an idea what might be the problem?

I also have this problem with an old NES.

try a different wall outlet, I could just be a bad chort in the outlet, or possibly a power strip that is fragged,

Learn to use a voltmeter and monitor the actual inlet fo rthe power, if you get ~7-8 volts then it is working, if not you need to see if something else is the problem...

Also, the NES and the PStwo are two COMPLETELY different animals, thaterefore they need to be addressed seperatly

Ok , i'll give that a go.

I'm not too fussed about the NES though , so i'll just forget about that for the time being.

EDIT: The different socket thing didn't work , i'm now gonna try the voltmeter.

I see this with the slims a lot... is there som e play on the power input on the PSTwo? Often, the little plastic joint the power connects to gets loose from the board and so, doesn't put any power to the console. Check it all with a meter, but it doesn't hurt to see if that thing has a little wiggle to it. It's usually an easy fix.
Open the case
Desolder the power connector
Get lots of bondo, and a screen
Cut up a controller
Add batteries
Make it portable...
...

or jsut resolder the connector on if it's loose... your call.
