DS redesign WIP

Post by EnterTheHatrix »

I scrapped the idea of turning my spare DS obese into a console because there were a lot of complications.. But how about this idea...

Image

Basically, I want to make the edges of the DS thinner, remove the hinge element, move the battery to the middle of the console and the slot 1 to the top of the console..
The shoulder buttons are on the back...

Good idea or bad idea?

Sweet idea, but what will you make the case out of? Also, arn't hand-held console hacks extreamly hard?

I wouldn't say extremely hard.. Just moderately hard..
I'll make the case out of fibreglass mostly and flexible plastics that dont shatter. including the original case.

It's snowing like mad, so I haven't been able to get out to the shed to get some materials to start this..

I'll have to clear out the cellar room tomorrow so I can do some modding down there again.

For plastic, I'll b using DVD cases.. They're durable, thin, but unfortunately, they crack under strain as opposed to get the white line...

If anyone can recommend some durable plastic that's thin and doesn't crack, let me know.

Dude Sweet, Idea! Im still trying to find a use for my Badly damaged DS phat, I'm Missing a Button because I was to lazy to put it back togethor and I was tired as hell, and both the L and R buttons were busted and I Removed them with a Pair of Pliers  ANd trying to Fit in Way to big of Switches for the L and R replacments, and trying to Make em fit I melted the Body near the L and R buttons to try and fit it, and Not its looks like complete crap, but Im pretty syre I can sand it to make it look better. Ide like to do a DS Case Mod, but dont have the Time, Pateince, or the tools to do it, and not to mention theres a crack on the GBA slot and the Hendge is busted too.

TT, don't worry about it, DVD case is working fine and plentiful.

Meh Nevermind I wont need one, I thought It was just a Case mod, but this would require moving a Rewireing the Card slot and the Power Port, and mabye the GBA slot.

OK, Today I've marked out the areas on the cases I'll be cutting and I desoldered the DS slot.. I need a new soldering tip because this one has corroded and is copulate...

I can cut the pieces, but no real hardware modding will take place until I get a better soldering nib.. Considering this iron only cost me around £5, I might just go out and get a replacement iron instead. It would probably work out cheaper.
