lol nice bump, i too have been interested in VR AR and head mounted displays, unfortunatly any with a decent wide FOV an high resolution are really expensive and gettin LCDs of that small of size at any decent res is also expensive. your best bet are CRT and LC camcorer viewfiners i would think. also look in to heatracking and haptic feeback of some sort

I had bulit most of this and stopped when I could not find the right optic lenses to use. I was using the hipgear screen pad. It was a tad large but do able. I think that if you could find 1.7 view finders you could probally make what you want. I still think that you will need to figure out how to make the optics work.

ideal size would be .8-1.2" or so, pretty small. use lenses and stuff to make the image larger and cover more of the field of view. high res doesnt hurt either
