Laptop Screen

If you're making a portable you probably need something to watch it on. (Unless you want to guess what's happening in the game, but I wouldn't advise that) Anyway, this forum is your "Hacking a pocket TV/screen" one-stop solution. Share your experiences and knowledge here.

Laptop Screen

Post by RusticSpec »

I know this isn't really relevent to videogame hacking so if I have posted in the wrong place can a mod please move it.

Anyhow, I have seen you guys know your stuff when it comes to screen hacking so I was hoping you can help me out. I have an old busted Dell Inspiron 1150 but the screen still works so I was hoping I would be able to turn it into a monitor for my desktop. Now I have read the sticky thread and it says I cannot hack it for video games, but am I able to hack the connector so I can get a VGA output? The product number for the actual screen is LP150X09 and is a 15" XGA made by LG Phillips.

Any help on the idea would be much appreciated.. thanks :)

p.s I think the connection might be a LDVS?

Nope. The connection is either Dell proprietary or it's LVDS. You can spend a few hundred dollars on a VGA-LVDS converter, or you can pick up a cheap VGA monitor for less. It's not worth the trouble.

hmm ok, just seems a bit of a wate. What happens if I cut the connector out from the botherboard and then try and go from there with the connections to it?

Why, when a (most likely) bigger and brighter screen can be had for under $150?

Here's a pretty nice one for $150:

Try this guy out he has controllers that are kinda sorta universal, I'm waiting on a email from him about his controller for my gateway solo, he has also got controllers that convert lvds to TV and has video s-video with remote. not bad for the price. 50 to 70$ + shipping
