Sega Genesis Portable consideration

I am wondering which system to use in making a portable.

Options

Radica
Sega Genesis
Sega Genesis 3
Sega whatever else

or simply buy a Nomad and have no fun in building and designing my own.

Can you tell me what are the advantages and disadvantages of these systems?

I am using a genesis 3 for mine (once my freakin screen gets here). They have 100% compatibility, they're small, and you don't have to add a cart slot to it. Only bad thing is that you cant use the 32x or the sega cd.
