Today... I bust my megadrive, and it made me cry

So no genesis portable yet, and my dad bust my old 486, but I didn't cry abourt that.

A 486? NOOOO!!! Those chips may not be fast, but they are STABLE! I buld systems from those for FUN!

He bust it trying to take things out of it, for my new pc, I don't know what though, because what stuff in there could be compatible with my amd athlon 3.6ghz... nothing, surely

what do you mean, what is wrong with a soundblaster 16

or a 720kb floppy drive, or even a 5in floppy? You can get all sorts of cool old dos games on 5in floppies! (The 5 inch ones where the floppies you could actually bend.) OR what is wrong with a 500mb hdd, you couldn't use it to run windows, but you could get linux on it, again

and hey, what is wrong with that 10in 2bit vga monitor

5" floppies are super cool

I hope one day I can get a 5" floppy drive, even a 486 computer... i love them to death, and I like linux too

I wonder if I can get a CD drive for a 486 computer... or even build a 486p.

That is weird, canablising a old computer to make a new one thats what about 5 or so generations ahead, the only thing I can think you could use with that new computer is the floppy (3 1/2), CD/DVD rom and if you dont have one maybe a sound card. And I know from someone telling me that using out of date hardware with a computer thats newer only causes the owner problems, like the person I'm talking about had a ATI 7000 card he wanted to install in his computer and he would have had to upgrade his CPU driver to accept it.

Also I have a 5 1/4" floppy drive, dont know how the hell you connect the thing to a computer, doesnt have a SCSI or IDE interface just a part of the board that looks like it would fit in a PCI slot more than anything else. And before anyone asked if they can buy it I'll say this; I'm saving thing thing as I want to make a stealth drive (preferably DVD) for my computer.

I didn't bust my old computer to make a new one, I bought my new one, but my dad accidently bust the 486 trying to take the hard drive out of it, which I still have, and don't really need.

Microsoft didn't buy out bungie, they just publish the games they make for the xbox. Although I agree, the only good gui os made by microsoft was windows 95

other than that, ms-dos 6.22 was pretty godd, rather easy to use for a commandline, but also rather weak

(I am making a remake of ms-dos in c and python for my senior project, I hope it works out! )

It should be easy to put a cdrom in a 486, as it is all IDE. Drivers may be a bit of a problem, though. As for the 5" floppy, it uses a normal floppy bus, you just need a cable that connects the 3" and 5" at the same time (not too hard to do on ebay, I'd imagine)

Well I cant understand how you destroy/damage a computer removing the hard drive.

Also, wasnt the 486 a CISC chip type? And also just as there are people out there designing and building chips and making them smaller, you think there is someone out there making a 486 and all the crap on the motherboard into a single chip? That would be something great to get DOS gaming back, it would also be great for portables.

There was a company planning on releasing a handheld 'game console' using VIA's Eden x86 CPU and WinXP Embedded (yuck). Similar size to the GB SP, but thicker, supposedly with 802.11 and a 20gb hard drive built in. Their website hasnt been updated in months, so its probably a dead project. OTOH, VIA's Nano-ITX boards are just crying out to be portablized...

Yes, they did buy out Bungie. Bungie didn't like Microsoft and were supporting the Macintosh platform until they were bought out and forced to switch Halo to the PC and then to the Xbox.
