The UltraBoy 64!

I'm starting my own N64 portable project!

I'm calling it the UltraBoy 64; as you probably know Ultra was the codename for the 64 before it launched, and Boy is obviously a derivative from GameBoy - 64, well because it's 64 bits!

I have almost got the design down, but it's not quite done yet so you're gonna have to wait for a sketch.

What I do have though is... A Diagram!
Yeah I thought that would help me a lot when it'll come to actually assembling this thing.

So here you go:


Please tell me if there are any errors or recommendations that you may have with this diagram, after all, this is my first project of this kind.

Oh and what does the Electrocapacitor do? Should I put it so it affects only the n64 or, as it is on this diagram, affects both the n64 and the screen LED's?
And will the battery be fine with the setup I have, or should I have a switch for when the battery charger is plugged in, and when it's not?

Give me some feedback, I need it.

OK the design is pretty much done by now, take a look:



Pretty satisfied with it myself. It'll be a real challenge to fit everything in there, especially with the Thumbstick being that close to the screen it'll probably obstruct it, but I think I may have a solution.

So now the preliminary process is all done, I think the next thing for me to do will be to buy some sheets of polystyrene and cut the front of the case, then build on top of that. Ofcourse I'll need all of the internal parts that I don't have yet. I'm thinking of buying the LG LC064N1 for a screen, but I'm not really sure if it'll display a PAL signal? Does any of you guys know?
Anyway, I've found a nice 6300mAh battery pack which should do a great job powering this installation, a little concerned about the size though but I think it'll work out.

I'm really excited about this project and am putting a lot of work into it, but I'm really just a n00b at this and could use some good adwise from some routined hackers.

Your design looks great but I'd be really amazed if you were able to put a full N64+screen and a 6300mAH battery pack in there.

are you using a psone screen?
if not then your design looks good. but if you plan on using one then your buttons would be to close to the screen

Yes, if you use a PSOne screen you will run into problems. The mobo of the screen extends quite a lot further then the screen itself therefore limiting the available space.
