First the Sixaxis... Now this!

Post by jones »

As if the Sixaxis wasn't bad enough, now from the WTF files...

Check out this story on Gamespot regarding a goof by the Sony marketing group.

http://www.gamespot.com/news/6164738.html

So does this mean that Sony holds PGR3 in pretty high regard? I guess Sony made a goof like this already with Metal Slug Anthology for the Wii.

http://gonintendo.com/?p=11868

They didn't even bother to edit the text! It still says Wii?!?!?

So basically my question is this: Is Sony trying to shoot themselves in the foot this generation?

I can't remember a company having this much bad press at the time of a system launch. Granted some of this stuff is trivial, but the fact that it has happened multiple times now is somewhat dubious.

Maybe it's like any season of 24 and there are Nintendo and Microsoft moles inside Sony sabotaging them from within. Oh, by the way, I'm kidding.

So what do you guys think? Have there been other times when companies have goofed like this that you can remember? Doesn't necessarily need to be video game related either.

There was that thread we had a while ago, when that company listed the LCD's they were selling on their website were listed for $0.00. Some people from here tried ordering some, but just got e-mail applogies after a day or two.

On the top 25 dumbest moments in gaming history (on some website I can't remember which) Sega got #6 and #3 for the launch of Saturn 3 months early (3) and the horrid US Saturn pad (6). I think Sega may able to live down that system's launch, as the PS3 might become the new Saturn.

I'm not sure if this fits the criteria... but when Megaman collection came out for the Gamecube (not the X's, the originals) a ton of the games had the jump and fire buttons swapped with no way to unswap them. Apparently ya know, nobody bothered to go back and play the originals to see what the button configs were. Makes the freakin thing almost unplayable, and by the time you get used to it, it makes all of the other Megamans unplayable. SO ANNOYING!

There's actually a giant list of screwups in both of the Megaman collections for the Gamecube. But I think either the Playstation 2 or XBOX version they fixed the button swap... thanks developers! :(

I was going to say that too, but I forgot by the end of my ranting. Here's another one I just thought of.

When Age of Shadows for Ultima Online was supposed to come out... It was the first housing opportunity in like 2-3 years literally... some screw up happened in shipping, and if you had ordered directly from the official website you got your shippment a whole entire day early.

And then east coast got theirs early, and then west coast, so by the time west coast got their copies the login server was down, account registration servers, phone network, housing server for house creation, and every single website associated with Ultima Online. If you could login your very backpack could drop on the ground and get deleted, people were blackholling, servers were reverting hourly....

I could go on all day. On top of all that, a few weeks later when Europe got theirs... the servers were in America, and they all got theirs midnight our time, and all of the servers were on skeleton crews, and it was days before they were able to do anything, and most of them had taken several days off of work and had already been awake for 25+ hours when housing was supposed to start.

Could go on all day with that fiasco, thats still only the tip of the iceberg.
