heh true that. well the source is already amplified. once i hack out the RF unit out of the NES it will be weak. So we shall see this weekend.

Update!

I cut most of the wood i am going to use for the portable. I decided to use birch and walnut for a nice contrasting effect. Once i get my digital camera back ill take some pictures.

Well my NES I am going to use for this prject came in today (thanks triton!) and upon ripping it from my postman's hands I connected it to my PSone screen (now LED modded) and fired her up.

ermm yes i do own a copy of jaws

the screen is perfect and I really like how the video amp handeled itself. (apparently my video amp had a bad resistor which caused it to scramble the image.)

Now to the case.

The case is about 50% done. The sides are Walnut ~3/8" thick and the top is Birch ~1/8" thick. I had to cut these thicknesses from a 5/8" board by running erm vertically in a table saw (done this before but never to this thickness

). The back is not done and theres still sanding to go.

Thats the batteries I am going to use for this project; 8 AA 1.2V 2500mAh rechargable batteries. This should give enough umph to power my portable for a good 3 or so hours. Some day I am going to replace my linear voltage regulators with some DC-DC convertors but I do not have the time (going back to college on Sunday) to do this.

I didnt finish the case today so I wont be able to finsh it till spring break which is in a couple months. See yah then.

Edit 2// I have a question regarding my screen tho. The PSone screen has 2 7805's on its board. Would it be possible to remove those 2 regulators and tie it in with a 5 volt Dc-Dc regulator? The regulator can handle up to 2.5 amps so Im pretty sure it can power my NES and the 2 spots on the Psone screen.

Im hoping with the Dc-Dc regulators ill be able to increase my battery life by atleast 1 hour. (linear voltage regulators are about 60% efficient and the Dc-Dc regulators i got hold of are 90%) Ill do some testing before replacing the 7805's and after to see how much of an increase i can get.

Errm in this picture, you put the components on the wrong side. You are supposed to have the components (tact switches etc) on the non copper side, with there leads sticking out the holes. You then solder on the copper side. You poke the wires through the holes as well, and solder them on the copper side.

they where surface mount tacts

Are they? The look the same as my hole mounting tacts.

Yah they just don't have tabs that poke through the board. But I might have to end up redoing the controller boards because when i installed them they where 1/16" to high (if you look at the button on the switch themselves they are really tall).

I am going to have to redo most of the electronic work because I have decided to go with switching regulators so I might endup redoing the controller board and stick all the wires on one side to hopefully get that 1/16" back (in this portable the 1/16" is needed lol). But in all this is the rev. 1 of this design and it will be refined.

Try slicing off the top part of the button with an exacto knife, it worked fine for me (YRMW).

Errm, sorry but I really don't advise doing that. That buttons are fiddily, and xacto knives slip easily and are very sharp.

Plus I allready ordered some some other tacts that are shorter so I wouldn't have to risk slicing my hand or not cutting them to uniform heights.
