I've given up on my GCp, but still have a problem

so today i decided to give up on my Gcp, but after putting my gc back together, i can;t play super smash brothers. I load the game in properly, it loads up to the versus screen, where you can chose melee (4 on 4), and then i get an error message, that the disc can't be read. I've cleaned the disc with water and a cloth, but still nothing. please help

clean the laser with a q-ip and alcohol.

if that doesnt work there is a small pot on the bottom of the reader's board give it a very very small turn to the left and try your game again
