Easiest 3D model spacing for portable program thingy?

Post by ShockSlayer »

Ok, so with my n64p, I need to make some models or whatever they are called to calculate the exact sizing of my case. I guess it would be helpful, so I don't have to do a lot of work just to fail, and so I can show my L337 designs. Also, I'm looking into my dad's work to see if he can make alumnium case sidings for me. So, any ideas?

I have 1000+ posts now, so am I a respected member?

Do mean like designing? Google Sketchup should work. If you have access to a 3D CAD Program, you could try that as well.

3DSMax. Easy after a few tutorials, and simple to use. But I suggest you do not illegally download it!!! Because that is stealing, and wrong. You should never illegally download software.

And a side-note:
# of posts doesn't make you respectable. I'm not saying you aren't, I'm just saying don't judge your level or respectedness from a number. However, once you hit 1336, make a topic about your 1337th post and then don't post for awhile.

edit by mod: :wtf: Don't even hint at piracy. Capice? (capeesh?) -bic
Hey, sup?

You mean I can make a whole topic just for that?!?!? WOOOOOOO!!!!

Ok, so I got google sketchup. (I don't get your joke vb....)
I'll try it later, and if I like it, Does anyone have some premade models of psos boards, n64 mobos, and nimh batts?

On a side note Autodesk 3DSMAX 9 is great.

3dsmax is great for making pretty pictures, and laying out some ideas. but from an engineering perspective it sucks balls, because it is too hard to define the spatial relationships between things. that is, you can easily make a 2.3" x 6.193" x 4.0000" cube, but you cant easily make sure that its exactly 2 inches away from something else, and centered along its axis.

a program like solid edge is much better if you plan to actually make a design that you can later follow in the real world. it lets you set up relationships like that, and lock parts in place and check for overlap and other useful stuff.

I think you'll find that a set of calipers, a pencil and paper will serve you best here. Build your portable around your biggest component, which will either be the screen or n64 mobo.

3d renderings are nice, but you won't be any closer to having a better-looking portable.

Whenever i design, i always design by the mobo seeing as the screen can also be hacked smaller. But for a GCp the GCN's mobo was like the same size as the PSOne Mobo so it didn't matter :P
