Reproduce the SNES?
I want to reproduce the snes cause i want to build a "very" small portable snes. Can I realise this when i buy each electronic part of the snes and build it on a new and smaller platine. Maybe today you can get some similar or even the same elctronical parts in an smd-version.

Since some chips in the SNES are custom, you'd be better off taking a mini-snes and desoldering/resoldering all the parts if you wanted to do this. I think (if you had the skills) you could make it ~1/2 the size by using a multi-layer pcb (4+), mounting components on each side, and redesiging certain parts/putting in only what you need (if you only need rgb, don't add the rgb->composite circuitry, etc)

or you could do like dennis did with the minimig and build a snes into an fpga or something like that where you use maybe 1-2 of the original chips and the rest is emulated by the fpga, would be a heck of a lot of coding that i dont understand and a lot of pcb work but you could probably cut it down to 1/2 or 1/3 of original size

Is it also possible to connect this small snesp with an memory module for example an sd-card and load some roms on it? For example you buy an empty snes flashcard and connect this with your snes-system and your sd-card. If you want to play a rom the sd-card load it into the flash-memory...

Meh, Everyone on these forums, I mean freaking everyone worships ben. You are the greater techy. >_> As for the reproductions, you might be able to find a good forum for every different subcategory of required knowledge like pcb design, computer science, etc. Use google.

Hey guys. I don't wanna say I'm back, but gannon pointed this topic out to me, and I think it's an opportunity we shouldn't pass on. So I'll do what ever I can to keep this project happening. Gannon figures he'd help were he can, but you gotta meet him halfway. This has to be a community effort. Whadaya say?

Anyways, if there's anyone who seriously wants to make this happen and is willing to work on it, I'd join in. I think the main angles of research would be logic level cloning (via FPGA), circuit redesign, PCB design, and looking at the clones as a substitute based on accuracy/compatibility with different hardware.
