anyone know what caused this?

Includes but not limited to: SNES, Genesis, Sega CD, PlayStation 1, Nintendo 64, Dreamcast, Game Gear and I guess the Virtual Boy.

anyone know what caused this?

Post by Retromaster »

a while back, I got out my ps1 and blew the dust off it. hadn't played it for a while. but not that long.
I set it on my desk and plugged it in. I inserted tombraider into the disk drive. I never play the ps1 without the screen, because I like it to sit on my desk not connected to anything. I turned it on. I saw the playstation logo for about a second and then it all turned to lines and started scrolling. the sound wasn't right either. something wasn't right. So I decided to void my not present warranty by opening it up. I just poked stuff around and held the disk shut button. I reassembled it, and it worked. but a little weird. the speakers made buzzing sounds and the loading was slow. overtime the speakers went back to normal. but I still have loading problems and the videos skip badly. I don't know what I did to get it working and why it fizzled out in the first place. Does anyone know what caused this?
and that tombraider thread of mine in F42 is locked, but mods, I WAS NOT done with it like you thought I was. please unlock it and i'll give you a big cookie.

Look at the laser disk reader. Push the laser around a bit. If you are lucky it will click back into place and work. That may not be it though.

Try resoldering all the connections on the AV jack on the motherboard. Are any loose?

Oh yeah....I love that canned air stuff called Endust.....
sadly I'm all out when I found it as an alternative to cool hot glue faster....
probably wasn't very smart....BUT IT WAS EFFICIENT.....
