The main reason. I hate loking at all these 'portables' being made (no offence) by people with little ability in either soldering nor building structures. Not to mention those people that get extreamly excited every time they see a hot glue gun. I would like to make somthing original not somthing horrible and chunky looking. I think that this maily applys to the project quoted above. To me this is just rubbish. I would be embarrased to show that off. It isn't even a laptop. Just a N64 with a screen.
Anyone have any sujestions for me? Not requiring major amounts of hot glue?
What with the n64 not having a keyboard, does anyone have any sujestion on what to put on the inner of the laptop on the bottom? I am currently making a 3D modle of what the darn thing might look like.

If I was you I would just go for it. Yes laptops are kinda the "in" thing to do right now but that shouldn't stop you from creating one. If any thing a laptop style portable would be the best way to do a N64 (since they are kinda thick). Good luck
personally i think if your making a laptop the n64 doesnt seem to be the way to go since the analog stick points up and the n64 having no keyboard suppost at all if your so bent on making a laptop i say you make a dreamcast laptop not only would it be the only dreamcast laptop but it could have a keyboard a mouse internet connection and whaterver the hell else you would want in it holy crap thinking of that now it would be freaking awesome

Ok, after reading this and other pages for hours... I have come to the idea that the mobo is run off 12v and 3.3v on seperate lines. Now, I read that you can drop the 12v line down to even 6v if you really wanted to. Does this have any ill effects on the rendering / gameplay of the n64? I hope not. Is this 12v actually used as 12v or is it dropped along the way to 5v? 5v Seems better.
I am now designing the case, complete with pentium II heatsink and fans... If that can;t keep it cool, don;t know what will. :

The 12v line goes down to about 7.2v, then the 7805 craps out. If you bypass the 7805, you could give it 5v, but it would have to be exact to be safe.
So if I gave it say 9v that might be safe, for the 64 anyway ? Although I do know that the card connecter has a 12v line in it... So the 12v goes straight to a requlater hey? I havn't really been able to see this yet as my 'pull apart' 64 is still coming..

Yep, the 12v line goes straight to the 7805, so anything from 7.2v to about 16v will work (might be able to take more, but its not meant to take a ton more than 12v).
One other question. I was thinking of using C NiMh batteries for the power. Say 6 of them to power the thing? The ones here are around 4500mAh. Think that would be sufficiant? I was thining of using NiMh AA's at around 2500mAh.. but hey! Also saw 9000mAh D battrys... would use them except for the price and weight of the things... $25Au each.... thasts $150AU for the battrys along.... whew.
I would prefer the AA's if they would provide the power for both the N64 and a PSone screen.... thanks.

The C's would be great, thats what RC car packs are made of (well, sub-C's). The AA's can't handle the high power drain, and you can get almost twice the capacity with the C's.
So sub c battrys would be able to handle the power drain? I think I might just go with C size for the mement. I know! I could fill the damn thing up with litho battrys and make a bomb!.... on second thoughs. Mabye not. I am making a N64...
I do not accept any responsability for anything if your try using litho battrys. Nor am I (in my though) a danger to this website!
