GP2X Homebrew

Post by HomicidalBarber »

Hey, I finally got my GP2X for christmas....well it was supposed to be for christmas but Hong Kong post decided they hated the idea of me having a happy christmas.

ANYWAYS I already put some things on it successfully, but are there any really cool apps or impressive homebrew games that any of you other GP2X owners would recomend?. Also, the USB networking confused me, could you use it to access the internet from your GP2X? I read the GP2X wiki page but it didn't help much. Thanks.

beat2x is great, and yes usb networking does let you surf the net on your 2x but its not exactly fun to get working, check gp32x forum for more info on everything!

If you're looking for some fun GP2X homebrew games, I have and enjoy ReWord, SuperTux, and Vorteck. I have Squidgesnes, PictoDrive, gnuboy, and fceultra emulators also.

I just got mine a few days ago, and my collection of stuff is rather thin, so like Triton said, check out the big archive and the forums at gp32x.com

The Quake port ran relatively well when I tried it a number of months ago. It probably has improved somewhat since then. Of course there are the Doom interpretters and all the wads available for those. Hexen can be a lot of fun (open-ended gameplay with improved Doom engine), but last I checked you couldn't save your progress.

Aside from that, you have your standard array of emulators. I used to love playing SimEarth on my GP2x, though it ( the actual rom) was unstable. You can try the PS1 emulator, but don't expect too much.

um, not really.
just kidding I always give my 2x a hard time. reword and ghostpix are my choices. as far as emulators the atari 800 emulation is pretty fast, mostly accurate but lacks compatiblilty. your milage will greatly vary on the rest of them, I have a pretty strict definition of 'playable' on emulators.

recently there have been games, I believe it's called egoboo, that's finally using some opengl. IIRC that was promised at launch.
