I have reasoned with myself.....

Post by ValiantVenality »

As the title says I have reasoned with myself. What have I reasoned with? I have reasoned that I am not making a portable. Its just not my time yet to make a portable. I'm only 12 and dont have enough knowledge (and patience) to make one. Instead of making portables I am going to mod exsisting portables. I usually fix a lot of things that my firends have. Like computers, my friends gameboy, etc.

Anyway back on subject. What my first project I would like to do is totally upgrade the Game Gear. I am very fond of Sega and Sonic (As you can see on my avatar and signature.) and I really like the Game Gear more than the Game Boy. So what I want my first mod to be is to make the battery life longer. The battery life is about 4 or 5 hours right? Well I am here to change that! I need a little help on this though. Would I need like that rechargable battery thing that Sega made?

So to wrap this all up I need help on this project. So please help me. So I can be my dream.... A MODDER EXTRODINAIRE!!!!!!!!!

P.S When I get a rank (Because I really shouldnt have this Portablizer rank) instead of it being Portable Extrodinaire, can it be what I just screamed at the top of my lungs? Thanks!

Yeah, I was about to say, why have you got that portablizer rank if you haven't made a portable?

You sorry sack of nuts. Dude, I made my first portable at the age of 13 (A 'failed' Genny 1 portable), and two years later, look at me! Well I haven't gotten better but I have enough knowledge at least (just need some moolah)...and when I said I was 13, think like a month after my birthday. Seriously, don't let 'age' stop you, it just fogs your true knowledge. Shut up, read some books, pick up an iron and make some majik!

I'm 20, and my first portable was a year and a half ago, and I've been modding for around 2 and a half years.

Had I the tools and money at your age, I would have been a modder back then too. You might aswell try something.

Remember the Mythbusters and modders motto, Failure is always an option.

It's always worth starting a project, and if you don't finish it, keep it for the future.

As for your Gamegear idea, I'd be a bit more adventurous... You tried a paint job? slim it down a bit? make it a bit curvier? Make it look like a PSP... Its your call, be creative.

Don't worry about your age!

if you are using alkaline AA batteries in it, you are already getting the longest battery life you can without serious modification/change in appearance.

you could use rechargeable NiMh batteries instead of disposable ones. they wont actually last as long, but you'll never have to buy batteries for it again.

lithium ion batteries are technically the best choice but id feel bad if i told some kid to use them and then he blew his hand off. or his face off. id stay away from them unless you know what you are doing.

I'm 13 and I made a portable. Just remember test the batteries 2 times before you hook them up to your expensive toy. Because that did mine in.

I'm not very patient either. Its not just my age but my lack of time and money. I got time but no patience. So I guess I could just buy rechargable batteries but that ruins the whole point of the mod. I want it just to have a longer battery life. Like I would mod it to where it would run off of the Sony battery. That one you use for the psone portable. ANyway I am going to do more mods, this is just my first one on this list. its always been a peeve of most people because The Game Boy lasts a lot longer. I link my next thing I'm going to do is paint it. Then one huge thing I reall want to do is have the TV tuner and make it have really good reception. Well I dont want to get too carried away. Lets just work on the battery problem for now.....

Never throw anything away unless it is absolutely unusable, you will always find a use for it right after the garbage man comes.

I disagree with that about NIMH not lasting as long. In everything I use my NIMH AA's in (digital camera, Gameboy Color, GP2X) they last way longer than alkalines.
