NESPiMP - Complete! NESP + Media!

While I realize I haven't been mentioning my project much (read: at all), I've finished my first portable...

Using as many original NES pieces as possible, I wanted to keep the old school feel of this. For the most part, it's standard: NOAC, Hip Gear Screen... It's all mounted into an original NES cart that houses all the circuits, 2 speakers, homebrew amp, 7805 circuit and media player based off the Sunplus 8202 media player (from USB or memory card).
I'm pretty sure this makes this the first NESP with the ability to play MP3, DIVX and act as a pretty snazzy photoframe.

There are three wires hanging out the side, and the sides need to be sanded down a little at the seam (waiting on an IR Transistor to use my remote control for the media player)

(No, the NES controller does not control the player, the board I was using is designed only to take the IR (*teardrop))

Oh, and I've installed a switch that allows me to swap between cart and built in noac goodness WITH the adaptor attatched (which is part of the case, so that was a needed thing)

Been running this thing a few hours on this battery... not sure how long it will really last. It's on a bracket made of plexy and IDE pins (A La Ben's Book!)

This is the player's menu screen (sorry, blurryness) until I get my remote, it can only play MP3's (Need to be able to push play for the movies and photos.) When I get my IR Transistor... that will be up too!)

Well, that's about it! I've been working on this on and off (mostly off) for a few weeks now. Overall build time is, maybe, about 3 or 4 hours if I didn't keep killing things with the coldheat (got the REAL iron out of the closet to finish the job)

And of course BEN! Dude, if I post my copy of your book to you, will you sign it? I just want to put this thing on display with the book!

Post questions or comments below... No pics of the guts... I sealed it shut... then thought of the camera. Suffice it to saw, lots of little perfboards, a noac, and TONS of wires.

wow thats pretty cool i was thinking o making a nesp with a cart as the case but i backed out and i never wouldve thought to throw in a media player that just makes this thing totally awesome

But it would be twice as cool, if you put it all in one big case, insted of 2 small ones put together.

Its only one cart (actually, one extended cart) for the case. I had to make it a little thicker to fit the NOAC board (though the new revision is MUCH easier to fit, so the next design will be thinner)
The controller is actually only half of the controller.
The battery pack is my only real complaint with the design... It's my camera's sony infolithium... WAY too much juice and size... but, eh, funness.

I already started a more slimmed and sleeked down version, this is still my first portable. I want to do one more NES before moving on

Wow. That's looking pretty good! I like the idea of having a media player in it.

By any chance, would you be able to get pics of the inside, or is it glued shut?

I'm building another without the media player (which is the only reason I had to build a thicker game cart case) and I plan on doing a step by step with it. The new version will use a standard rc rechargable... might include schems for a diy charger too

What media player is in it? You say it's based off of the Sunplus player, but does that mean that's what you got? Also, where did you find it and how much did it cost? Because I'll be honest - that's gotta be the best feature in any portable for as far back as I can remember. I want one... Maybe add it to the next SNES I'm working on...

runs off 5 - 8v, pal or ntsc. really small. it does have a board on it with pad at the bottom that look like they can be hacked into for buttons... but I couldn't fit that in my design.

Holy crap that thing (the media player linked to on ebay) is a lot smaller than the thing I've been working on/with. Oh well. How well does it play the video files? Like, full 24fps or whatever? Decent sound?

Edit: Sorry, didn't mean to focus on the media player entirely. You've got a good portable there. Nice work.
