Nintendo 64 Laptop.. your thoughts..

Post by Felino »

Hey,

One idea I have had for quite some time. A N64 Laptop.
Anyone have any thoughts on this? I know there is a slight height issue, but none the less, I would like some input.
I think that personally I would prefer a laptop, with controller ports and a p1 build in. Rarther than the usually psp / gba stype of portable. I know that the N64 has some pretty hard power requirements... but hey. Got to try this! Has anyone else ever done this? I am thinking I might do one of these, or mabye a nice little atari laptop with cf hdd, etc etc. But thats a different story.

Any input would be nice.

Oh my gawd... Making a laptop? I don't think anybody on this site has thought of that!

I'm sick of the whole "Laptop" crap that seems to be flying around since Ben made a console laptop. Monkey see, Monkey do I guess.. I'd personally make a handheld out of it, or a nice custom case.

Good luck with your project.

Sounds ok, but seems pointless to make a laptop out of something which has so much potential. Just make a handheld.

he can do whatever he wants to do. the only difference between a 'laptop' and a 'portable' is the screen flips down. using your logic, all the portables to date on this site have been unoriginal, since ben first did it six years ago.

it might be awkward actually playing games though, if all the controls are on the top, keyboard style.

i wouldnt call height an 'issue', you could easily make it 2" thick, which beats the 360 laptop.

power requirements are nothing compared to xbox. most people dont have problems.

your question - no one has made a n64 laptop before, but like i said its exactly the same as a normal portable, plus a hinge.

Not exactly the same. You need a way of ruinning wires between the top and bottom half.

Well you could make it a laptop with arcade controls! MAN Super Smash Bros would be awesome with arcade controls!

*Imagines Super Smash Bros with arcade controls.*

I don't see any point in making a "laptop" unless you have a keyboard.
But if you're going to make a portable with a flip screen... Go for it!

here is th issue I see, even with Arcade controls

THE joystick is to damn different from anyoterh arcade controller, most arcaade controllers are just like and Atari's controller, just switches The N64 controller 1st party uses phot-diodes and third party use pots, Just All I have to say

That would make up my hieght issue.

If I had arcade controls they would be raised slightl above the surface of the bottom half. Sorta making the laptop stick push the screen a little bit up. I was thinking I could just have ports for real controlers, making it yes, less like a laptop.

That's a box with a PSone screen, not a laptop!

I agree. but WTF why a laptop. on top of that you'll probly ruin 6 N64's in the process of it. make a portable.

To make it actually worthwhile to make a laptop you've got to come up with something that no one has thought of before, and since no one has made an actual laptop then you've got some elbow room to get creative.
