I think (maybe hope? yeah probably hope) that by next generation we'll have a new company with a popular home console. Apple seems to be branching out in every direction what with the new iPhone and all that jazz. Not that I'm an apple fanboy or anything, I like my PC and my Windows. I just would like to see new innovations and ideas. Nintendo had a good idea with the Wii, I simply think it wasn't the idea we were all searching for. I have yet to play a Wii, but until there's a 2 player swordfighting game for the Wii, I'd only buy it for fps anyway.
As for its name.... Maybe the iConsole? That sounds very generic though, maybe iGame? Also generic.... how bout iComeFromBehindAndTakeTheIndustryByForce!

lol 50 years from now.
PLAYSTATION 13, with a 10.5 TeraHertz Core Processor (Terahertz is a step up from Giga Hertz, Like giga byte is a step up from Megabyte.)
Plays with the Same controller as the Original Playstation 1, and plus it can play 10% of PS1 through PS12 games, Om my goshes, that so pwn some
lol, but look, Ninendo has gone Virtual reality 20 years ago, and guess what, Microsoft Owns the World, Bill gates used to be the President of the United states but Died in office from old age, now his Son is President, sounds like the Movie Idiotcricy Where the President is a Pro Wrestler and everyone in the Future is stupid.

I look to see an ambitious hardware company to buy SEGA back and use them as an influence, however, This is little more than a pipe dream
But until there are enough next-gen titles, we cannot say anything, these companies are taking their sweet time putting out titles and they will suffer for such
I look to see a crash in the industry and then some new companies pulling a phoenix from the ashes

I refuse to dignify myself with an intelligent and witty signature
the honest truth is we cannot say anything until there are enough games created, I mean a dozen titles a piece, that is ridiculous I mean the XBOX 360 has been out for a year and they still has a measly half ass set of games, come on,
The PS3 has what mabye ten titles?
The Wii has the most for a next0gen launch, that is not including virtual console
We will not be able to predict the future until the present is worth having

Since obviously nobody else will rag on Nintendo, because as we all know Nintendo can do no wrong...
</sarcasm>
Nintendo GameBox: All the latest re-hashes of games that are older than dirt! Amazing low-definition graphics! It might even play audio CDs! The entire thing will be wireless so you can play games 500 feet away from your TV so you don't notice the low definition graphics. You can buy 30 year old games for $2.50, 20 year old games for $5, or 10 year old games for $29.99 (or 1832845234 NintenBucks). The controller will consist of a hat which reads brain activity, so you don't have to do anything to play the game. (It also sends you some electroshock-therapy jolts when you pick up a Playstation 7 or Xbox 720 controller, but they don't tell you that.) The whole thing is a gimmick, but at least the dedicated fanboys will buy it by the truckload. Launch titles include Mario Party 12315, Super Mario Land 87634, Mario Golf Baden Tour, Metroid 72342, and Legend of Zelda #404 (Title not found). Consumer loyalty and uninformed parents will be the only things keeping this console afloat.

Following current trends...
Nintendo will fall even farther behind in the technology race, until they simply cannot compete- yeah, graphics aren't everything, but they are a heck of a big Something. Furthermore, they will be completely and utterly abandoned by 3rd party devs. Their line of portables will keep them afloat for a while.
The Playstation 2 was 299 when it came out (IIRC), the Playstation 3 is effectively 599, the Playstation 4 will be 1199. Only 100,000 PS4's will be available during the first six months after launch. Violence at store camp-outs will increase to unbelievable levels. The hospitals will be overcrowded with prospective gamers who have mauled each other over a better chance at getting a PS4. 3rd party developers will scoff at the insane price and quantity. 3rd party support will slowly dwindle over time.
The Microsoft XtremeBox will stay below the upper spending limit of most gamers, maybe reaching 599- completely reasonable at the time of launch due to normal economical trends. Though it will be difficult to find initially, XtremeBoxes will becoming readily available a month or two after initial launch. Microsoft will enjoy increasing 3rd party support. Halo 5 will draw considerable interest, but fans will begin losing interest in that title.
SEGA's status will remain unchanged.
Both the XtremeBox and the PS4 will push 4xHD resolutions (as seen on TV's at CES2007). The Nintendo console will only achieve moderate HD resolutions, keeping previous fans nonplussed.
In the world of accessories...
Sophisticated visual processing techniques will allow camera attachments (ala the Sony eyetoy) to accurately pinpoint the relative positions of the player's body parts in 3D space, rending "wiimote" devices obsolete.
In the later half of the next-next-gen console cycle the first affordable, crude neural interfaces will become available. These take the form of a hat, and use a number of simple electrical sensors to detect activity in different parts of the brain. While not allowing much more direct control than turning left or right, and not supporting sensory feedback into the brain, these will allow games to determine the overall emotional state of the player. Imagine if Doom 4 or Silent Hill X knew how firghtened you were, how frightened you could become, and reacted accordingly?
Wireless power transmission will allow wireless controllers, mice, and keyboards to opperate indefinitely without any user intervention- no need to change batteries or place in a docking station. The technology itself will brew a slew of investigations into the effects of wireless power transmission on the human body, much like the concerns surrounding cell phones and brain cancer almost a decade ago.
Municipal wireless networking will become more common. Some cities will enjoy city-wide coverage for wireless internet. This, combined with the decreasing cost of various cell network internet solutions, will allow such things as the PSP 2 and the continueing line of Gameboys to access the internet virtually anywhere.
For more information, tune in at 11:00.

5 years from now:
Playstation is dead. Sony's market has crashed due to the ps3's suckage.
Nintendo and Microsoft Have settled thier difference and joined, providing Extreme power(and graphics + features) and Extremly awesome games and styles. The controller Is as comfy as the gamecube's w/extra buttons for minor usage. It has a transform button that morphs it into a wiimote. It is backward compatible with GC, wii, xbox, xbox 360. All controllers are 5 bucks at launch, games are 10 and virtual console is free. The system is $150, which is good. The name: Revolution. Not Nintendo revolution, nor Xbox Revolution, nor xwii 360. Just Revolution. by Microsoft and nintendo.
Perfect future.

nintendo gets their asses sewed offf do to the excessive wii realated injuries and are forced to drop out of the console line but continue with their gameboy line. sony folds as well due to homebrew and piracy on their ps3 and psp as well as their huge price tag nopone buys the system except a few who just use pirate copies. microsoft continues with their xbox line with nothing too risky and continues with their success. hopefully another companny preferably sega comes in and kicks microsofts ass. this is how i expect things to turn out but i am actually a wii fan and unimpressed by the 360
