iTunes playing music too fast?!

I don't regularly use Windows, but for Christmas I received a new computer that I'm using as sort of a media/programming PC. All of a sudden today I noticed that iTunes is playing all my music about 10% or 20% too fast. If I start a song on my laptop, wait a second, then start the song on my new computer, the new computer's song will catch up to my laptop and pass it. Plus it makes all the singers sound like girls via the 'chipmunk' effect. Anyone know what is going on?

Anyway, thats really odd. Never had that happen before so i'd have no clue whats going on there.

I have the best solution. use Windows Media Player! you see, iTunes is an Apple product, and Microsoft products hate Apple products, so Windows is making iTunes too fast

That was a joke. but for real, try windows media player. if that runs too fast, then you're S.O.L.

Just backup the itunes music folder and reinstall itunes.

I had that problem once, tried a couple of media players and no change...
I think it has something to do with a driver being messed up, but when I reinstalled windows, the problem was gone.

And yes, I reinstalled itunes, wmp and vlc before that, I'm not a complete idiot... Sometimes. Hope thats of help man.

I've ran across several Dell computers that the sound card drivers were causing that. They would even play WAV files really fast, and it sounded quite funny. I would suggest to download the newest sound card drivers. If that doesn't fix it, try reinstalling directX. The most recent one for Windows XP is 9.0c I believe.
