Gameboy SP - Gameboy Advance

Okay I know this is a little off subject with hacking videogame consoles ment for TV's but I think I'm in the right place and that you'll forgive me.

I love the Gameboy Advance SP's Screen and Battery, I hate the shape of it. Is it possible to put the SP's Screen and battery into the normal Gameboy Advance so that I can have a wide Gameboy with a lighted screen?

Well.......he put it in an original gameboy. this guy's talking bout a regualar ADVANCE.

Well, if he did it isn't on that page. The closest thing he has done that is listen on that page is the GBOMG. Which is basically a gameboy SP with a clear front panel.

I had a similar idea. It involved cutting the inside section out of a GBA, leaving the handholds. You then bondo those to the SP and extend the buttons to the ones in the handholds from the GBA. Then you get the protected, lit screen from the SP, and the comfort of the GBA.
Note: Theres more steps, this is just my basic idea, and I'd love for someone to make something of it.

Well I don't think it'd be possible to fit it in a GBA case/for factor. If you really like the GBA case over the SP's I'd say you have to avenues you can take. One is that you use a broken GBA or a GBA case to form an attached housing, so you'd be using the shape. The other option is to take the style or a enlarged scale of the GBA and use that for the case.

The first one would would be the cheapest as really all you're doing is cutting up an old GBA case and then finding a means to secure it to the bottom of your GBA SP. The second you'd have to use a modified GBA case design as the SP's screen and main board are the same size and will be sitting on top of one another, so a GBA wouldn't have the depth to accommodate an SP boards without a fair deal of modification.

I took apart the my GBA and my GBA SP. The ribbon cables are different sizes but I never thought of having a GBA with a flip screen. I like that idea better and it sounds easier. I need to do some more experimenting and find a broken GBA.

You know the key reason they made the SP with a flip screen was to avoid customers compaining of the scratched up screen like they did with the GBA. I own a GBA that I bought off a member, rive16, and really the screen is scratched to hell. I'm sure with some arasive/polishing paste I could fix it up but really the things screens are as bad as the iPods.

Take advice from a mad skillz bondo'er and follow this idea.

: Extend Sp's ribbon cable PORT
: Place screen(in case) over the control half
: Relocate buttons on tacts or mesh boards
: Bondo screen to the control board
: bondo gba halves to the sides.

You might be better off just frontlighting a plain GBA and using rechargeables batteries in it.

Is the SP screen compatable with the original GBA? If it is you can just replace the GBA screen with an SP screen.

Nope! The ribbon cable is waaay different. And there are even different ribbon cable in multiple gba's

if you want an easy, no brainer solution, get an afterburner gba backlight. google it. easy kit. did two myself, one for me and one 4 a friend.
