Wireless NES controller

Hey guys, what would be the best way of going about making the original NES controller wireless, if it's even possible that is...

possible maybe but needs a little moding

use them and figure out how to jam them into the original case.

i have a set of the snes ones they are just short of absolutely perfect (would rather have a d-pad then the circle thing).

the snes ones are the same size more or less as the original controllers just a little thicker due to the batteries.

Hey Atomicman. Ive also got the snes pads. I replaced the stupid triangle switches for the dpad with some standard tact switches from digikey. It works phenomial, feels like an mini arcade joystick.

But in answer to the original question, ive seen a site where someone used a wireless keyboard numberpad to make the controller wireless. Only problem is it only accepted one keypress at a time. Ive been looking into this myself actually. I want to make a wireless PC Engine/TurboGrafx 16 pad.

Hmmm... those babies are a little expensive if you ask me. I was looking more along the lines of designing the circuitry myself. Maybe using infrared or RF signals? Anyone have any ideas?

well yeah if you find some of the old school ir controllers im sure you could hack them up to fit. but you would have ir controllers though, which suck royally and chew up batteries like crazy.

but if you ask me, those wireless controllers were worth every penny. im thinking about using one in my fc twin port to have a 2nd player wireless but i would have to buy another set of them cuz i wont break up the set i have right now.

Ya, I won't be using one of the old-school wireless controllers... the whole point is to do build this myself. Whats the point of sticking one controller in another's case? None if you ask me... Does anybody have any ideas as to making my own circuit for doing this?

since it just uses a 8 bit shift register you should be able to use something like 2 8bit transceivers and some other discrete circuitry

I posted an idea a while ago for using a wireless mouse to wirelessly transfer other data, maybe you could use that idea (don't ask me to find it, I think its in tech Q&A's).
