WTB: Cheap IDE Dardrive

Post by A_Username »

I want a cheap IDE hardrive to install Win98 or Win98SE on to cram into a franken computer. It NEEDS to be IDE too. If any of you have an old win98 machine laying around, send me the hardrive. My friend and I got a computer for free and It isn't detecting the current hardrive (which was wiped) to format it and install windows.

Here are the specs I need when I look at buying it.

1. Capacity in GB
2. Price
3. Manufacturer (if you can tell)
4. Age (if you know)

-256 Kb Cache Buffer
-4,480 RPM Spin Speed
-11 ms average seek time

i can give it to you for $10 USD +shipping... and I do believe it is IDE. and it is 1997 if I remember correctly. I'll go check later.

Great, in the other post you said that it had Win98 installed. Don't format it!! The computer above has a hardrive in it that had recently been wiped and WON'T detect it, it's really been making me mad. Thanks for keeping the hardrive. I can get you the money as soon as my friend (computer's at his house) talk about this and I can't see him until saturday. So expect the money by like monday. What do you like (money orders, PayPal)

Thanks for keeping the Hardrive,

Sorry, but I got the # of GB wrong in my post... It's actually 2.1 GB. So I can give it to you for $10 + $10 shipping (USD) and I'd prefer PayPal. Let me know if you still want it.

EDIT: I'm leaving for Hawaii on Monday, so I won't be able to send it to you then. Is there any way you could get the money to me before Saturday so I can ship it to you before I go? My Post office is closed on weekends...

Maybe, can't garuntee it though. Jeez, how much space is left on the thing after installing windows? Are you sure you still want $10 for it, I mean the size just got cut in half and it's the same price? :?

Have fun in Hawaii, it's a wonderfun place.

Well I uninstalled almost everything on it. But I'm not sure exactly what space is left. How about $8?

Hold it for me, I need to shop around a little first. I just might be able to get a hold of a 4GB from somewhere else. But a second hardrive won't hurt and I fits into my budget of $20 for PC parts. The computer I'm working with can hold like 3 hardrives anyway. HOLD IT!!

Thanks,

I just talked to the guy who has the 4GB, it fits the description of yours almost exactly. If it turns out his is only a 2.1GB also, then I'll buy yours. But if his is a 4GB, I'll guy yours and his, and use one for windows and the other one to store all my software and games.

Hmm i have a 20GB hard drive thats IDE and laying in a tower. But its 7 years old, makes a really loud rattling sound and even when you format it, it still runs like a disabled sloth. So it isn't in shape to be used for Data lol, never know what it would do.

 disabled sloth  I wonder what's wrong with it, there was an article on hackaday a while back about how to "resurrect" a dead hardrive.
