Handheld Wifi Halo2 Portable....

I'm kinda new to the site, but am amazed with everyones portables. I had the idea of a handheld xbox that basically is just an emulator built into the controller (like on a thumbdrive if possible) that only plays halo2. The idea is to be extremely small (obviously) so there is no disk drive. It would have like an 8" screen attatched to the s-controller or something. It would also need to have wifi so it would be X-Box Live capable without cords. The X-Box Live capable thing would be EXTREMELY tricky though, but may be possible...

Sorry about the length, but I wanted to get the whole idea out there. Let me know your thoughts on this.

First of all, I don't know if there are any computers that will fit into an Xbox controller. And if there are, it won't be possible to emulate Xbox. Are there even any Xbox emulators that have been programmed yet? I think not. There are other problems with your concept too... Sorry, this just isn't feasible.

Also, don't even think about making a real portable Xbox. Only two people have (Ben and Dkap) made one, and they are extremely huge, not even close to the size of a controller.

- Nobody's made a sucessful PC portable, and it certainly wouldn't be anywhere close to the size of an Xbox controller.

- There are only a couple portable Xboxes in existence, and they're both pretty huge. (he xbox motherboard can't be cut down any smaller than it is, and it takes a lot of power so it needs lots of batteries.

- There aren't any fast Xbox emulators.

Sorry but for the time being this is a pipe dream. Start out with one o fthose Genesis controllers or a nintendo on a chip or something. They will fit in an Xbox controller.

After your replies I kinda revised my idea... what about using the current mobo, modded with the games burned onto a laptop hdd w/out a dvd drive. You could use a screen roughly the size of the mobo right on top of it. Then you could have a controller hinge off the bottom...

Still not very small, but you could prop it on a desk or table or something, more like the laptop but still specifically for Halo 2 on Live (still have to work the Live out...)

You could wait for Halo 2 to come out for PC and get a tablet PC to play it on with a modded controller for the tablet to dock in.

That idea of an Xbox in a backpack, with a screen attached to a controller, with wires going to the backpack, would suit your needs. That was a while back. If you search you can find it. I wouldn't go with a backpack per se. But perhaps a briefcase with ventilation. Power would be the biggest issue. Look into what dkap used. Unless at these wifi hotspots there are outlets. Which, at some cafes might be possible. It is entirely doable, and would be quite simple as far as construction goes. You could even keep the DVD-ROM. But it would cost a bit for the power needs.

Not true. The newer chips out let you. They don't just turn off either.

The briefcase idea might have to do, it will let me keep it unmoded and I would just have to plug it it... not exactly what i wanted, but easily doable.

Well, as for the PC portable idea, given the money I could easily do that. Ever seen mini ITX or nano ITX mobos? Use one of those and it would be easy, in fact some guys have already built something very much like a portable computer with this, but it's got a pretty big screen and has a fanny pack-esque power supply built out of a second hand lead acid battery from an electric wheelchair. You can see it on the mini-itx.com website, I think it's called the 'ambulator 1' or something like that. With a little creativity and about a thousand dollars for parts this could be a really cool project. Anyone with lots of money want to attempt it?

If you were going to do go through the trouble to do that, why not just make an Xbox laptop with a disc drive? I mean, invinite games are better than one.

Actually, yea, I got a thesis on this. Uh...get a notebook ATA IDE drive and format it for the XBOX...and rewire capacitators on the board and all to make it as flat as possible...since you want only Halo 2, right? Just keep the HDD...maybe get a 20 GB. for pretty cheap, and keep it awesomely flat. Hardwire a wireless controller head to the first player port, and rewiring the command buttons of the head to be easy access and all. And hopefully you have it fairly flat. From there, install an XECUTER modchip or a DUOG2X (<==if you want a NICE bargain), because if you want to play live, but you would then need the modch-...second thought...crazy...but rewire the IDE port, and maybe make an external drive...yea...that could work...then it's still flat, and when you want to play live, just hook up the drive and play halo, and when you just want to play single player/with buds next to you...use the HDD data (legally backed up Halo 2)...yea....then get a screen...and some sort of 'custom' hinge...and it would be fairly thin...think the exact size of a xbox motherboard but add depth...hmmm...just a thesis though

He could get a big hard drive to hold several games and have the external disc drive like dkap's Xboxp to add more.
