Attack of Evil Joystick and various questions.

I have an evil joystick

Okay I can't waite to get my screen, so I just wired up the old plug to the N64 and it ran fine.

But then I noticed that when I go into the menu of Zelda, it always goes one direction... so then I realized I didn't have the joystick plugged in. Okay my joystick works great, I think, I don't have a screen to tell, but it sounds like it is reacting fine. But after a little while of running with a joystick, the N64 just quits.

I couldn't figure out why for a long time, then finally I unplugged the joystick, works great

Then while it was running I plugged in the joystick, the N64 quit

What is wrong with my joystick?

2I wired up the PTH08080 and hotglued it to the N64 board, but I'm using a 2.2K Ohm Resistor instead of a 2k,This will undervolt the 3.3V line slightly, will that be okay?

If I'm right the PSone screen has 2 regulators, and then the N64 has 1, plus the one for the 3.3V line. Isn't that terribly inneficient, could I take the regulator off of the N64 so that I only have 3 going instead of 4!?

Err... I dunno about the controller but I suggest you hook the n64 up to a screen first

2k resistors don't exist so you're fine.

That's not a good idea, I think you wouldn't get enough current.

I got the 2.2K resistor to work, and I do know where to get a 2K, it's at Jameco Electronics.

Anyways I got the joystick to work, then when I tried to cover up all the wires it shut off the system, again

Now I can't get the joystick to work at all.

So I just bought a new controller to see if the controllers broke or the joystick. Plus I'm not sure but I might be able to hook up the Gamecube joystick.
