Building a "laptop" style case for the Xbox, but i

Hey guys, i got the idea of building a laptop style case for my Xbox after i saw what Ben did to that Xbox360. Is there any chance i could do the same with a normal Xbox?

I'm looking for a layout design that will fit in the Xbox motherboard, DVD drive and its Hard Drive and a 15" LCD panel into the case. Can anyone help me come up with the design?

if you don't have access to a cnc router, then there's always the last resort to case building- your hands. simply use a dremel or xacto knife to cut the main plates out of engraving plastic, wood, or metal(note- do not bother trying to cut really thick wood or metal with a knife- get a dremel. their awesome tools.)the main plates are the bottom plate, keyboard front plate (I don't even know why you would need a keyboard to play xbox), screen plate, and outer front plate. for the walls you use thin aluminum strips avaiable at your hardware store that you can bend with pliers (1/16 inch thick strips). simply use a locking hinge to join the screen and base together. to cut out the plates nicely, use a ruler or templates to draw your designs so that everything is symetrical. for more info if you need it, pm me or just answer this post.

Yeah we have a dremel lying around with lots of extra tools in the garage somewhere, no crc router though.

I wont need a keyboard, so thats some extra space saved, i could have some vents there to let out all the extra heat. What about the Xbox's components? Will they fit in fine without any modification? I'm looking at the same size as the Xbox360 laptop case Ben did, maybe a bit thicker.

well, in order to keep the motherboard and stuff from flopping around, you need a magical little device called a nylon spacer. they act like screw posts. in order to maintain the correct thickness, take the guts out of the xbox and configure them in your desired fasion. measure and put a little more thickness on it than what you measured as you will need room for space and wires and stuff like that. find out where the screw holes on the motherboard and stuff is and mark where they are on your plate. glue down the spacers(note- since the xbox is a computer, i'm hoping that it has screws that are known as size 4 computer case screws. get these at your computer store. a size 4 spacer should keep this in place. the thickness of the size 4 spacer varies on how thick the xbox motherboard and parts are. I know for sure that the xbox motherboard has large thick capacitors that you should bend down to save space. I have to go now, mainly because it's 2 in the morning.

Okay yep so i have to get some spacers, are they like the little brass mounting screws you use when putting in a PC motherboard?

Also with the bending of the capacitors, how would i go about extending the leads on them? Thanks.

The best idea would be to mod the XBOX to use a laptop PC hard drive, and no DVD drive. That would save a ton of room.

That would be good but my xbox isn't chipped. Would it be possible to "soft mod" it to put in a 40gb laptop drive? That would save me some space. Next all i have to worry about is cooling and how that will work.

Since you won't be needing a keyboard, I suggest using plexiglass for that area and adding some blue or green lighting. Just an idea.
