I have still yet to see any evidence that any of the forum members with "my game console" threads are remotely capable of completing such a project.
we are pretty much in planning stages, but yes, I admit BB is amazing.

My project is currently planed to :
Have a custom Linux boot that is browsed like the OS on wii.
Music, video, and pictures
wifi
web browsing
Sd media
USB charger / Debugging
Rechargeable batteries
Interface with most low end Linux software.

Hey I am the one that spun out and started portagame. I have been saying from the beginning of WEST to use a SBC then some people tried to become Black Box junior and I went out on my own GB came and has been a big help in the planning of this device but thus far we havent gotten out of the planning stage. We are not trying to say that you guys are copying us. Our project is moving more toward being a PDA or UMPC type device with an emphasis on gaming.

I have every beliefe in the fact that you probably can build a device that can accomplish all of that you want it to do, but seriosly the biggest problem you are going to come to face with is the fact that programing , no matter what fom it may take, is difficult, and to get it so that you can browse the net and connect to other devices with wifi is absurd, you will soon find that building any tiny computer is easy but then you have to write things for it to run. You are not going to accomplish what microsoft, sony, nintendo accomplished by hiring hundreds of people , all by yourself. If you set your sites that high your idea will end up not happening like every other idea like this attempted. Start small and then build up from there dont try to make the end all of all handhelds on your first try.
ahh. but opinions can change and facts can be faulty.

You can avoid programming headaches if you use an x86 based SBC. Then you will already have an emense library of software to utilize, and you can always worry about customizing software later.

The prototype will just attach the controller, touch screen, and sbc together in a case with a sd reader.

Gravedigging! Sorry, I just wanted to know if this project is still alive. I go to you guy's forums all the time but I never see updates...

Speaking of which, what happened to Blackbox? I know Portagame and Komodo are still alive though.

I think teraflop is right, its a ton cheaper to get a DS, PSP, or GP2x and run stuff on those.
