10 inch TFT screens.

I have two NEC Laptops with 10 inch TFT screens in my basement, My dad offered to give them to me to help make a fairly large semi portable SNES. I dont know if I can use them or not (The screens not the laptops) but I looked inside of them and there is enough room in the monitor case to fit a mini SNES or one of those weird FC Clone things that can play both SNES and NES games. So erm.... YEAH. Anyone know if I can use these?

No, a laptop screen CAN'T be used in a portable.

In the future, try browsing the forums or using the search function at the top of the screen, as this question has been answered numerous times before.

well some can but the odds of finding a laptop with an lcd that accepts composite input is basicaly nil

find out the actual maker of the screen and search with google or something for the video pinouts but chances are it wont work at all.

Unless you fancy paying upwards of $200 for a controller board from EarthLCD, then no.

It's not hard to find nice 7" screens on eBay that accept composite video.

actually the ebgames I work for Has a 7" TFT for the PStwo that is only $60

I would rather use a smaller screen but I had it sitting in the basement so I figured I might as well ask. Save moolah, and in regards to the Ps2 screen, that opens up as many possibilities as the PSone has. Less hacking of the screen that is.

Like I said in my original post about it (if we're talking about the same screen), be careful opening the case since there's some adhesive tape holding the metal shroud around the LCD to the front of the case. I decided that the original case didn't look that bad so I'm going to incorporate it into the design for the SNESp that I'm working on. I'm also not going to LED mod it. I think I can live with the extra battery drain.

sweet let us know how it works out, I have one at work that has sat on the self for a while and if the quality is not super crappy, I may get it for another portable, I only wish it recieved S-video or something higher that composite at least...

anybody know of a higher quality screen over 5" that recieves RGB that doesn't cost your first born child to own?

That screen came from a portable DVD player and it accepts Y/C, composite, and RGB. I've only got composite hooked up to it so far and it doesn't look too bad. I've just got to find a way to adjust the brightness. I think I'm going to LED mod that one and use a pot to adjust the brightness. It is also lacking contrast control, but I don't think I'll need it. I'm probably going to use that screen in a portable NES. I have the pinout for the rb5p006am encoder chip and someone else here has the pinout for the IR3Y29B encoder chip. If the driver board for the LCD has either of those then it can be made to work.
