Would this be like a Swiss Family Robinson/Lost idea where everybody is stranded and trying to find out what the hell has happened.

That sounds pretty arabic... I don't have anything against arabic, but I want it it to sound a bit like (translated) japanese. Or even better something that has a meaning in japanese.
Looking at that map, I see a pretty big city on the peninsula down on the left, a big desert in the middle, ranging almost down to the southern coast. Preferably with a ity of nomads, and a boss in the shape of some big snake or scorpion. Then a mountain surrounding the desert on the north side, and ranging to the west and east sides of it. In the bay in NE there might be a city relying on sea trade. On the NE-most point, perhaps a military outpost. On the little bay in NW, a well hidden pirate place. South of that some sort of outcast city.
What thinks?

Also I want to say that my role model among 2D RPGs is really CT. It has a good story as well as having good-looking graphics, and a lot of thought behind practical things.

Ahh this brings back memories of the summer, when I spent time programming a game using the RPG Toolkit. Obviosuly, as this was for PC it's too complex for the GB. I only ever got a demo up and running. Maybe I'll find it later. I *could* try to do some 4 colour graphics if you'd like, but I'm not particularly good. Still, talk if your interested. If you had a character/item description, I could try to draw something for you.

Plan for graphics

Post by nitro2k01 »

TheOnlyOneHeFears: (And other interested people) What I need is:
* Trees, houses, grass, mountains and such general tiles. Both for cities and the world map. Preferably no stealing. These need to keep a maximum of 4 colors for every 8*8 pixel block, and they should preferably be built of 16*16 pixel squares. This should be no surprise for experienced pixel artists and knowledgeable gamers, but to you other, the tips is to use PSP v 4 using a palette of only 4 colors. (PSP not meaning Playstation Portable :) )
* Sprites: Since one color is reserved for transparent, there are only three colors to play with. It is theoretically possible to do sprite overlays, but that comes with a penalty, since you can only have up to ten sprites per scanline.
I think the sprites should be 16*24 (2*3 blocks) to give them a bit height. I think square human sprites only looks weird, consider pokémon, ugly as hell.
However, each individual 8*8 block of a composite sprite can have its own palette of 3 colors.
* Things like fonts, frames, fingers or arrows for menus, other symbols, perhaps a tile to indicate a sword or a shield?
* Visual images of our heroes, 16*16 or 24*24, using at most 4 colors for each 8*8 tile (And preferably not too many colors in total.)

Okey Dokey and How About Tonari (Means Neighbor) or Ketteihan (Means Sequel Or Special)? Also can there be a mountain called "Mount Itoi"? (Named after Shigesato Itoi).

Hey, man. I'd be willing to jump in on this as a coder if you want. Right now I know Basic and C++. Though I could probably learn C in a pinch. I also dabble in the dark art of graphic design, although I haven't done pixel art in years, it would give me a chance to brush up. I can also pull a couple of really, really basic midi tunes out in a tight spot.

Just a bored nerd with nothing better to do. I don't check these forums enough, so if you want to contact me e-mail or an IM would be prefferable.

Indigno: Thank you! Right now my motivation for this project is low (In other words, school just started)
I think I'd rather do the programming myself, at least the core part of it, since I know Z80 assembly and the GB hardware pretty well. C coding can be hard if you're used to Basic and C++, especially because of the string handling. Add to that the complications that may arise from coding for a low-fi platform.
As for music and graphics, go on give it a try, but think of the limitations. Music: Max three melody channels and one drum channel
Graphics max 3-4 colors per 8*8 block (See details in previous post)
