I'm trying to boot up an old computer with MS-DOS 6.22 and Windows for Workgroups 3.11. Once I get to this screen it sorta just sits there.
I haven't tried this more than once because the computer isn't mine and isn't at my house. Do I push a button or something? I hope their are still some people who have an old computer with this on it and use it, or remember how to use it.
Have you tried error-checking the hard drive? (scandisk at the DOS prompt) Or maybe there's something in the Windows configuration it doesn't like. You could try running the Windows setup program (in the Windows folder) to see if a driver is to blame...

nope no errors. It's weird because it inflates all these files on startup and then a pink bubble box thing comes up and asks me if I want to run windows, if I hit no, it will stay on the DOS screen with the "Start Windows with EMM368" and Start Windows without EMM368" options and I can do DOS commands from there. Ran scandisk found no errors, it's not dualboot or anything. My friend tried to reinstall the drivers and the same thing happens, it's weird.
Is it supposed to do anything at that screen or do I have to push a button to get it?
Try this: If you can get to DOS, but still have xmsmmgr.sys loaded, go into the windows dir (cd c:\windows) then do system\dosx
That starts Windows in standard mode, which is not supposed to be possible in WFW 3.11 (Only 3.0 and 3.1)

it's a computer that shouldn't been running win3.11. It's got dual CD-ROMS and Dual Floppies, USB1.1, and a 800X600 Monitor, and 16MB of RAM. I'm not sure of the USB and the RAM, but that's what my friend said, so that's all I have to go by.
If it hangs at that screen then something is corrupt in the OS (sad that i still remember my win 3.11 days ahh the goodness of it all)
I would reinstall windows on the computer
You can try in dos promt coing into c:\windows and typing setup and changing the vga drivers and anything else (i don't remember what the screen displays)
It's been way to long i don't really remember much bout win 3.11 but i know its error handling was either show an error code or if there is no error code just freeze
Try that but your best to either install 3.11 again or out a better operating system on like win 98se atleast
This is funny, I just ran my old copy of Windows 3.1 on DosBox. Quite a nice emulator once you get it figured out. But yeah I would try reinstalling it if they would let you.
