Free movie editing and converting software

Hey guys I was wondering if anyone knows of some good free movie editing and converting software for some speedrun movies I am doing of mario 1 and other games. Thanks in advance!

windows movie maker. free, comes with xp. sucks, but it's there.

Well I was trying to avoid that if I could... I was kinda hoping for some good open source stuff.

For the converting software, use Media Coder. It was recommended to me and i say it's the best i've ever used, and it's FREE(My favorite word)

As for free editing software, get VirtualDubMod (latest version). It's the most fully featured editing app with the best price on the planet. And yeah, for encoding, MediaCoder is the bomb!

Can someone help me use media coder I want to use it to convert a dvd file to avi? I can't figure it out!

DVD file to AVI?

What is a "DVD file", exactly? :? .VOB?

Yeah .VOB sorry for the confusion I just can't figure out where to change the file type.

Look in the downloads section at doom9.net. They have a good list of free programs for video editing and conversion.

Check out www.vcdhelp.com they have search for what tools can convert from this forman tot hat and have tuts on how to use the programs have a look :)
