Hey guys, I want to make a portable PS2, yes I have a PSP... anyways. I have VERY low experience with this sort of stuff. So I'm going with the mantra: Simple is good. So here is what I'm thinking:
Buy a used slim ps2.
Buy a PSone screen.
Tape the screen to the slim ps2. And tape two of those "dvd player" batteries to the bottom.
Eh? Ideas. What will I need, how much will it cost? Problems with it? I figured later I could always put it in some sort of "laptop" type case. I know it'll be clunky, but hell, it'll work. Thoughts?

I am actually now considering this screen.
I assume it leaches power from the ps2, so all I'd need is some sort of portable power supply. I don't actually want to make a ps2p, I want a PS2, portable. Thoughts?

By portable, do you mean an on-the-go machine, or a handheld? In all actuality, judging by your limited technical expertise, the chances of you completing a PS2p, especially as a first project, are very slim. However, it would be fairly simple to buy a screen for the slim PS2 as you have noted already, and simply mod the power cord and hook it up to a battery pack for a very simple "portable" device. The playtime would depend solely on how much money you spend on the batteries, and they would need to run anywhere from, say, 7.5-8 or 9 volts.

Yea man, I didn't want a handheld, my plan from the get go was to use a logitech wireless controller. I'm sure it'd be very easy to get a portable system going. The major factor is cost, though I could buy all the parts, who in this world isn't cheap?
Anyways, I thought it'd be helpful to get more precise voltage requirements. I know that the aforementioned screen comes with a "car adapter" which, if I'm not completely retarded means 12volt DC power. So I guess I could strap a car battery to it?
So, as testimonial to my electrical prowess, when you add batteries, do you add total volts? Ex. 1. AA = 1.5 volts. 8 AA = 12 volts? If so I could use some 2500 mAh rechargable AAs I have lying around, and wire together a lil some some with the "car adapter". No, thoughts? I'm really trying to minimize cost at this point, and maybe get some cool / ease of use goin' on.

First of all, DO NOT use AA batteries, or any alkaline cell for that matter. They just simply don't have enough amperage to get the job done. Here's what you do:
Let's assume for a second that the screen uses the same power jack as the PSTwo, and it runs off of the same 8.5V as the PSTwo itself. In this case, it makes things ridiculously easy. Get this battery set, throw on the correct DC jack, and there you go: Instant portable. And even if none of the jacks fit (which is highly unlikely) you could always just solder the positive and negative leads of the battery to those of a hacked up DC plug on your PSTwo.
But what if your screen ends up using a separate power supply of, say, 12V, another common voltage for newer console screens? No problem as well. Just buy something along these lines and run the 12V into the screen, and use a 7808 to power the PSTwo. But hopefully it won't come to that.
