NES and SNES on a chip - FC Twin

Post by benheck »

Yesterday at PrePlayed, while looking for DS games, I saw a strange thing. New in box, a dual NES and SNES clone.

It was $60, I almost bought it, but the guy said they had "hundreds" at that store alone so I figured I could wait.

There's a lot of eBay, check it out (opens in new window)

Link

It looks like a SNES 2 and uses SNES sticks (which technically can work on the NES because they just shift the first 8 bits / buttons in)

I wonder if this has a NOAC and a SNOAC, or uses the 6502 compatible mode of the SNES processor (same as an Apple IIgs BTW) and has different sets of support circuitry.

It probably just has 2 glop-tops and 2 buses, so like, literally, 2 systems in one. Notice the switch for 8 bit / 16 bit.

It is the great, try it out, fo' rizzle, it works for me... basically, the entire thing is about as big as the SNES mini board, but if you take the NOAC portion off, you have a real tiny SNES clone with direct RGB out. it is the great. And the NOAC portion, naturally, is good too.

and for the record:

Still, wanted to let everyone know I've seen one.

(That long link is a eBay redirector, so if you use it to buy one, I get a few cents)

The guts of the FC twin are weird, it's like a YOBO NES PCB and a SNES...

Yeah and a damn small SNES at that. Buying one of those allows an SNESp to be made (a little) smaller. And as a bonus you get an NOAC, so it's two for one. Yeah!

I can already see this being the clone of choice for many portabilizers who want to build a SNES portable.

If you are part of the 8% who still listen to real music, copy and paste this into your signature.
