MS word acting up

whenever i try to open up word to take notes in class, it either takes 3 minutes to start, or freezes. the next time i start it, i can start it in safe mode (gives me the option), but then i can't open documents w/o it freezong. please help. I would use microsoft works, but the word processor is terrible compared to word IMHO. PEASE help!

Reinstall Word?

i would, but i lost the install cd, and when i try w/o it it says it can't find the necessary files to reinstall.

Then either get a Word disc, or use one of these:

http://www.abisource.com/

Start -> All Programs -> Accessories -> Wordpad

You don't need Word to take notes, even Notepad will work. (And create smaller files.)

I agree, MS Works sucks. It's completely unnecessary, especially since OpenOffice does most of what MS Office does, but for free!

I agree, while I currently use Office 2003 (my Dad got it), I previously used OpenOffice instead of Office 2000. It is a LOT better. Once the next version of Office comes out, instead of buying it i'm going to reinstall OpenOffice.

Really, the only reason why I still use Office is because I don't want to download 200MB of software when I still have a perfectly functional Office suite (even if it is priced way to high, after all, I didn't pay for it).

Yes I like Office 2003 Professional because it includes Publisher, and it's really good (IMO).

I have an update-kinda. word opens really slowly, but when i try to open a document it tries to do a virus scan. and then a norton "unable to open program" window opens. i close that, and then opens word after about 3 minutes. is there anyway to either avoid doing the virus scan, or reinstall norton

Wordpad will read *.doc files, but I don't think you can edit them w/ that advanced stuff like in Word. Other than that, I'd also say get OpenOffice. (& try to maintain your computer's registry better)
