Recording Video Games

Do you have a technical question that doesn't really fit a specific console? Want some general info on electronics, hacking, making cookies, etc? Here's the place to ask! Go nuts.

Recording Video Games

Post by Busterblade »

Do you know how all those journalists and videogame reviewers get all those recordings off their systems? Right now, I really want to record GBA and DS games on DS Lite. And I also want to record consoles. I think the PS3 has built in recording for all games, or maybe just all PS3 games, but what about Xbox 360 and Wii? And PSP also? Everyone here watches trailers for games, but do you ever wonder how they are produced? I hope someone can explain this. The only thing I've seen is FRAPS, which is of pretty much no use to me, since it's PC only, and I barely ever play PC games.

For anything with video out: a tv capture card or vcr.
For anything without video out: a custom &| official video out adapter with the above method.

well you could always just put it in front of a video camera.

or, hack the digital video signal, this making your own custom video out device 8)

Okay, I might try that. But is there anything you can buy for DS that doesn't require opening the case?

No, the reason game magazines can get those screen shots are with a special device sent to them by the developer.

I don't think that there's anything you can get for it.

That seems kinda pointless, unless you test homebrew on it.
