I gotta say that LoZ: A Link to the Past is my favorite, with Earthbound in second place. :)
I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...

I don't see why you guys are calling LoZ: Link to the Past a 'not RPG'. An RPG doesn't have to have a turn-based battle system to be an RPG. Have you not heard of a real-time battle system?

Even you must understand it lacks other components a normal RPG is. I understand that it is an RPG, though.

I consider an RPG to have a leveling up system. Zelda does not have this.

Then what do you call getting new swords, shields, rings, ect. (I haven't played Link to the Past that much, but enough to know it's kick-@$$)

Atari, you have no control over what you get. You NEED to get those things to advance. The only thing you have control over is heart containers.

...Super Mario World is a platformer, but ok.

Yeah I guess the Heart Contianers could be considered leveling up, but I find that more of the "mega man defeat enemy absorb power" style (since you usually have to beat a boss to get a full one).

after my break from benheck, i have come across a japanese game called Fire Emblem. it is the most awesome game ever...even though it is a strategy, you level up, and take turns, so in a sense it is an rpg. i just wish they would make a english version :(
i'm lazy...so what?

Final Fantasy VI (it's the best FF imo) and Chrono Trigger. If you're not into turn based get Secret of Mana. Mario RPG is good too but it's nothing compared to Final Fantasy and Chrono Trigger.

Well, regardless of whether it's an RPG or not, LoZ: A Link to the Past still kicks major @$$! :)

CronoTriggerfan wrote:Well, Actraiser 2 is strictly a side-scroller, they took out all the fun stuff (like, the entire "rebuild the world" thing). They added a ton of new elements to the side-scrolling, but some find it hard to control. I thought it was okay, but definitely a disappointment after Actriaser 1. But if there is anything in its defense, it is arguably one of the most beautiful SNES games graphically ever released for the system. Oh, and it came out in 1993!

Hmmm... Sounds disappointing. The world building stuff was my favorite part of Actraiser (I'm a big fan of simulation games like Civilization and SimCity). That said, it does seem like it would still be worth a look at some point. I'll keep my eyes peeled and if I get a chance to play it, I'll let you know what my thoughts are.

The four best I own are:
Chrono Trigger
EarthBound
Gaia
Zelda 3

They are some of my faves.
(and yes I own the real snes carts not just... "other" media forms)
