Wooden Case?

Hey, I am new to this whole portable console thing, I plan on buying Ben's book, but before I do, I was just wondering if a wooden case might work for say, a portable Nes, (Which will most likely be my first project) I ask because I am too poor to spend $100 on a custom one. I have a bunch of logs in my backyard that I could cut into cases if possible, I just wanted to make sure there was no chance of it lighting on fire or something of that sort. If it is possible, what kind of wood would be the best choice? The logs I have are Chinese Oak I believe.

Don't know anything bout the wood, but wooden cases are nice. Be prepared to spend a looong time on it thiugh.

Yea, I know it will take a long time, I have to cut the log, do some basic carving, sand it, then polish it. I will also need to cut it in half then screw, or glue it backtogether after I put the Nintendo and everything else in. My goal is to make the case as small as I can while it will still fit everything inside.

My SNES I started has a wooden case. I unfortunately have not had time to work on it for a long time.

legoboy, your project seems to be coming along nicely I can't wait for the finished project. Good luck with NESp as well. I presume the NESp will be wood too. Also what type of wood did you use.

I used red oak. It's a bit hard to cut then some other woods, so it helps to have a dremel and a band saw.

Yeah, Because OBVIOUSLY legoboy's Wooden Case was Just PhotoShopped. No WAY A Wooden Case is Possible.

You make a wooden case the same way you make a wooden table. You cut the pieces and nail/screw/glue them together. You cut out the pieces with tools like saws and drills, and you can finish them with sandpaper and a variety of stains, paints, and varnishes. Wood can be just as strong as the plastics that are commonly used. You must be thinking of balsa wood, the really light stuff you can buy at the craft store, which breaks if you look at it wrong and can be cut by scissors. If wood is so weak, why is it used to make furniture and buildings?
