IIRC, UMD videos are region encoded but games are not. I recomend a DS way more then a PSP, I had a PSP and the only worthwhile games are NFS Rivals and Lumines. DS has way more variety of games, if you can get over the fact that all of them are rated T or E.
EDIT: LocoRoco is good too, but I've only played the demo.

I'd imagine right now you wish you were a cuttlefish...
I want to play Katamari so bad. It was supposed to come out for the DS but they cancelled it.
Get a DS lite, if you want games, DS was made for games. If you want an all-in-one, master of nothing, get a PSP.

I have bith, and i have to say that i fell my ds is just sitting in a corner collecting dust. i don't play either that much, but this christmas i'm getting a truckload of games for the psp. I would reall y recommend a psp, they're lots of fun, and the gameplay/ graphics are worth the money. hope this helps.
really i already know the ds is waaaaaay better and have been pondering getting a ds lite especially since you can get black ones in europe but im mostly looking into the psp for homebrew and i know youll say get a gp2x which was my original plan but now seeing a psp 1.5 for 140 $ a psp with fullspeed snes and gba emulation with up and coming n64 emulation is starting to look nice i am now just looking for reasons other than homebrew to get that thing plus im going to wait for the gameboy evolution as far as nintendo goes

Personally, I would suggest a GBA SP backlit version, but there aren't many 3D games, except for backtrack and a couple others such as medal of honor underground. Yet the graphics are crisp in this version, the games focus more on fun and entertainment. I like it because it can emulate NES, SNES, and a couple other systems using special cartridges. My main reason for liking it? ITS GOT METAL SLUG GAMES!!! I can be blood thirsty anywhere! It also has something called the play yan, which takes SD cards and is a media player specialized for the GBA.
Or you can get a GBA micro, whatedver works...

SAY ALLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!i finally used google!!
SAY ALLO TO MY LITTLE FRIEND!!!i finally used google!!LOL SNES emulation sucks on the GBA. So how much is the PlayYan ~ $100 + memory card $30 for 1GB SD. That is $130 + the cost of a GBA SP. The PSP is such a better deal, had can do all that (if you have the correct firmware, or downgrade 2.00-2.71 non-TA-082 PSP's 2.8x non-TA-082 and above are technically downgradabe with hardware flashing, but that is not economical).Retromaster wrote:Personally, I would suggest a GBA SP backlit version, but there aren't many 3D games, except for backtrack and a couple others such as medal of honor underground. yah i have a backlit sp but i dont know about flashcarts theyre really expensive. the snes emulator is really slow from what ive seen unless the vid i saw was just old. anyway the lack of buttons just doesnt make it worth it anyway. my sp is great but since a psp can do emualtion im in. the reason im so concerned with emulation is my comp will not play anygame at all at the moment so i need some gaming device for my snes gaming needs. and can anyone tell me if the psp can emulate saturn?
I purchased both and I have to say that the psp offers more than a ds. Games are a lot more challenging for one thing and you have a great choice of games too.
Wtf (work time fun) is a great one, dungeon siege is amazing, untold legends (both 1 and 2) is an awesome rpg, burnout is a whole lot better on psp than ds.
I do emulation on the psp too and its not only cheaper, but 50 times easier than ds. Psp also has metal slug...can anyone say neo geo? The psp emulator is coming along great, the gba emulator has come a long way and is just about perfect, n64 is close to being perfect...psp has a whole lot more so you are making a great investment.
My ds is sitting in a storage bin...I haven't touched it since children of mana came out really...games are kinda on the kiddy end for me...this is my own opinion of course. Others enjoy it better as you can see and others like psp better...give it a run and throw us your questions and opinions.
