pal games on ntsc

I have been searching and that leads me here

It just leaves me with a few questions

1) to play PAL on my ntsc all I need to do it just disable the lock-out? or do I need a 50/60 switch as well?

2) is it the same exact chip on the snes mini as is the original snes mobo?

3) What games will not work with the lock-out disabled (ie mario RPG...what else?)

Living in the UK we usually have the other problem - NTSC on Pal, most enthusiasts here buy US or Jap consoles then we have the best of everything - full screen/full speed and RGB enabled scart TVs.

But to answer the question if you want to pay all games possible you will need to do both as some games check for 50hz and some for the country chip. You will also have to remove the plastic tabs inside the console to allow the cart to go in.

looks like I am going to do both mods then

However that doesn't answer the question I posed about he mini

I plan to do these mods to the system I have on my TV but I want to also want to do them to my portable (which is a mini)

i think you would probably be best getting an adapter take it out of its case and incorporate it into your portable ive looked all over for mods for the mini and cant find them either but if you do find a guide to make a mini multi regional let me know

I just think that browsing through a menus would become tiresome for every time I want to play a SNES Game...

So I want it to be automatic...

I believe that CTFan put a Game Genie or something in his SNESp that allowed him to play PAL games. You may want to try something like that.

or you could get like a universal adapter one that you put 2 carts in and like just rewire it and then smash open a crappy game with a small chip and stick that in and then you have a region free portable that works with any game

Well the funny thing is that I have onw of the last models of the original big SNES and the architecture is VERY Similar to a mini (darn near identical in fact)

It is a SNES CUP-1CPU-02 I think
I did manage to finad and disable the lock-out chip though (and remove the little plastic tabs inside but that is not really that big an accomplishment now is it?)

What I am trying to say is that the forums lead me to disable two pins on two DIFFERENT Chips

However, there is no ppu1 or ppu2

There is only one large processor...

I don't think the newer snes, or the snes-minis, can be 50-60Hz modded

PPU1 and PPU2 were merged into a single chip as you say, and no-one has cracked that one yet ...At least I've not been able to find anywhere with details on the single chip mod.

I think you may be better off buying an older snes - go for a cheap yellow one, as I believe the old plasitc that went yellow guarentees a 2-chip board (did the US SNES go yellow like the PAL one?).

The old turning yellow is a funny business and not a reliable indicator of age. I have an old SFC which is perfect but my '91 US SNES is half yellow. Depends on the material in each one. The top half of mine is fine the bottom is made of the 'turns yellow with age' stuff. This is quite common - sometimes on a SFC it is just the name plate panel that goes off. Nintendo just used what they had until they switched to non-yellowing supplies.

No, Yahoo Japan is not nearly as open as ebay. It is conducted in a Japanese way and sellers hardly ever ship abroad. You really need Japanese too. There are a few agents who will act for you but add in fees and shipping etc and it adds up.

If you really want to feel sick have a look at this link below. Bear in mind this is just the hardware section for the SFC - 22 pages of it all at some giveaway prices. Then there are all the games + Saturn, Dreamcast, PC Engine etc, etc...
