four ni-mh rechargable AAs in a Yobo?

Post by Klefmung »

I have these rechargeable AAs l laying around, doing nothing... they are 1.2v a piece, so the holder would output 4.8v with them (or so it says). Would they initially be overvolting it, or eventually be undervolting it?

IIRC most NOACs can run on 4.8-5.6V (A few NOACs I've worked with used actual vreg circuitry with diode/transistor/resistor instead of a 7805 and the diode was valued at 5.6V)

You've already removed the power-in board and the controller-port board and are just using the center board with cart connector, correct?

If so, I've had success running my silver yobo's center board off four NiMH batteries. I took the board out of the yobo and screwed it directly into the empty case of one of my SuperJoys - no mods needed, except to widen SJ3's battery holder. Just wired up the controllers, power, and AV. No screen here, but the system ran fine.

It's an easy project for anyone afraid to solder a 72-pin, or who don't have a Famicom adapter. Power for at least a couple hours with the batteries.
