Cutting power to screen resets console?

Okay, so I set up a switch inside my portable to cut the power to the screen when it's pressed. I'm going to set it up inside the TV-out so that the screen automatically turns off when the TV-out is plugged in so that I don't get a weak signal and waste battery life (similar to this).

Anyway, whenever I press the switch, the screen turns off but then the system reboots. I tested it and found that the system stays on when the switch is pressed, but as soon as I let go, the screen turns on and the system resets. I did some more testing and found that it's not the switch; cutting power to the screen by unplugging the cables does the same thing.

Any ideas on why this is happening? The two are on separate circuits (though powered by the same battery, obviously) so I don't see why one should interfere with the other. Anyone who's put a switch in their portable to turn the screen on/off had this problem? Thanks.

I have one on my triple p (which just needs a yobo and a case...yay!)

I have noticed what you descirbe and All I can tell you is this

yes it happens and It can be annoyting but what I think is thta the portable is having such a drastic difference in the amps being pulled that the console think it is cutting off... I think this could be remedied with some caps on all the seperate lines of the portable (ie one for the screen and one for the n64)

Also, you notice the power brick has two 3.3volt prongs? Could that have something to do with it?
