laptop troubles

yet again i have a thread about computers. This time is different. my friend jsut gave me a dell inspiron 300m laptop that works excpet for the fact that when i boot it up, it stops and displays a blue screen that says some software that was recently displayed needs certain drivers. The computer works, but it doesn't want to boot up xp because it doesn't want to corrupt the computer. If i installed a new hd, and got the drivers, would the computer work normally again. I want to use it b/c it's really light and good for school.

You may not even need a new hard drive, just reinstall windows and run free with your laptop, o little one.
