New Podcast Up! And How is the Wii?

Post by benheck »

Episode 7 is up and ready for download. We take it "on the road" as we attempt to buy - get this - a WII!!!!!

Thrill as we go from store to store, learning that unless you camp out you're pretty much screwed. We also discuss Gears of War, the DS Lite I recently bought and Backwards Compatibility.

-Ben

PS: We didn't get a Wii but came close - had we tried Shopko a few minutes earlier the podcast would have been all Wii. Those of you who got one, what do you think of it? It seems awfully hard to "try before you buy" with this thing.

Gotta say, although I have only played the crappy bundled sports game so far I'm liking it.

Bowling is by far the best of all the sports and twilight princess is awesome.

"Didn't bother", because I really don't care.

We can tell by the +1 on the "Didnt bother" tally...

I waited for three hours and twenty minutes, not bad at all. Anyone who calls the Wii Sports crappy doesn't even understand what it is. My basic conclusion is that it is actually the next generation "Nintendo." It is everything that you bought in the past, but their version of "next generation." Controller is exactly what I imagined, no more no less. It is great. I really enjoy split controllers. And I find myself interested for once watching someone else take a stab at boxing.

I arrived at the store an hour before they handed out tickets and ate some breakfast at Bob Evan's afterwards. At 9:00AM I went back to the Best Buy and picked up a Wii, Zelda, and Red Steel, along with an extra controller.

I love Wii Tennis and Wii Bowling, both are very addictive, and it's incredibly fun when my brother and I play it together. Red Steel felt a little bit wierd at first, but as I got used to the controls it got way more fun. The multiplayer mode isn't great, though :|. Zelda is amazing, of course :P. Here's my comments on it from a different thread:
I wrote:Well, in the couple of hours that I've played it, I must say it does look quite nice. I was slightly disappointed by the music, however, both in quality of sound and quality of writing. The chorus in the beginning sounds a lot like samples, as does the rest of the music. And Navi or whatever that fairy thing is can get quite annoying when you point it at stuff (the noise it makes as you move, specifically). Besides those minor problems with it, I must say I love it Very Happy. I need a lot more time with it before a finale verdict, though...
Overall, I think this is a very promising system....we'll see what happens with it, I suppose.

Edit:  ....the first part of the podcast is hilarious, where you're on the search for the Wii...so far, so good :D! Well, not for you, but the podcast is fun :P

Edit 2: Ben: For the DS to have a sleep mode....just close it. No need to turn off the power. And yes, Portrait of Ruin does look AMAZING. Fun podcast...enjoyable as usual.
Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Here's how it is for me... I bought it with high expectations. Those expectations were easily met, if not exceeded from what I've played so far (which would only be wii sports... I'll buy more games soon) I bought a second controller a few hours later, and have gotten more and more people on my floor hooked on this damn thing :P

Edit: forgot to mention: When I was camping, there was a car that drove up, and the driver asked how many there were going to be. We didn't know. Anyway, before he left, he decided to make a quick poll: "How many people are putting this on ebay?" Not one person that I could see raised their hand :)

Oh yeah, one other story... there was one guy that walked up, and had a proposition for us: "Ladies and gentlemen, you must all have very cold hands. Well, I have this pair of gloves [holds up generic pair of gloves probably worth $10] for sale for only $80... and it's insulated with... insulate"

To my surprise, I've played Wii Sports more than anything... Tennis and Bowling mainly.

I camped 17 hours, so, overnight.

While waiting in line, EVERYONE was making Wii jokes! "Man, I can't wait to get home so I can play with my Wii!"

This system is TOO fun!
