wireless controllers

Post by ATOMICMAN »

well since there really arent any good wireless n64 controllers might there be a way to convert the transmitter and receiver of a wavebird or some other 2.4 ghz wireless controller to use with a n64 one?

they have roughly the same amount inputs. i would lose the memory slot at the least and maybe rumble also. i would have trouble fitting batteries into a 64 controller but i believe this can be done...

I think the signal encoding is different but don't shoot me if I'm wrong.

Well it's kinda logic cause there are more buttons on a gc pad the encoding would be different. It might still work though, you would have to try it out.

good thing the game cube controllers arent too expensive and i can get n64 ones for next to nothing.

ill give it a try at some point maybe incorporate them into my portable if i get this to work.

there is a way to make an GC controller adapter so that GC controllers work on an N64, but i remember it wouldnt work with wavebirds. it was also a little more than just some simple soldering connection, i think you needed to program some PIC dealys. search for squid64

It's quite possible and not too hard. You need a WaveBird GC controller and build a Cube64 unit (basically just a PIC chip with some code)

You wouldn't need to modify the wavebird, just connect it to the Cube64.

i was actually more interested in having a real n64 controller and turning it wireless but ill have to look into it
