480p != High Definition
480p = Standard Definition

Yeah. Keep in mind that you can have a 16:9 aspect ratio with just about any resolution. It's just mainly used on the new higher quality resolutions, as a widescreen is better then a square.

I was not referring to high-definition, I was referring to Sammy's suggestion that the Wii was incapable of 480i.

The DwiiD is Jap only. Yes, the Japanese (almost) always get the best stuff first, and sometimes they're the only ones to get it at all. But personally, my Xbox 360 and the PS3 I'll be getting means that I will have TWO DVD players, and I only need one. So the Wii not having a DVD player is no big deal to me. The Japanese are getting it because they will have the highest percentage of people whose Wii is their primary, or only, gen7 game console.

DVD playback on Wii is not a big deal to me. I already have effectively FOUR DVD players connected to my TV. I have my DVD recorder, my DVD/VCR/5.1 reciever, my Xbox, and my PS2. I don't need another one.
And it's rather dumb that the DVD-enabled Wii will cost more; it's not worth it.
