Personally, I don't see the next leap in video games as a graphical one, but an interactive one. Sure, photorealism is great, and we'll probably have something close to it next generation, if not late this one. However, I think that to be able to take that next "big step", we need something along the lines of virtual reality level interactivity. That's why I'm such a strong proponent of the Wii, because it's definitely a big step in that direction.

Of course, the Wii is woefully lacking in the other direction
...
Anyway, I think better physics, more interaction, and generally just more stuff available to do that's common place in real life would help make a more realistic game. Basically, a summary of all that's been said is needed for incredibly realistic, yet still fun games
. Oh, and photo-realistic graphics are also needed for completely realistic games, of course
.

Without games my life would have no meaning.
Well, I guess it would, but it would be a lot less fun!!!!!!!

Oh, no doubt. I still question Nintendo's call not to beef up the hardware at least a BIT, because the visuals on the 360 and PS3 simply annihilate it.Gamelver wrote:Of course, the Wii is woefully lacking in the other direction...
Although I must say, the graphics on the new Sonic game for Wii were extremely impressive; the 360 version only edged it out by a bit, in my opinion.

The Matrix. Duh. No seriously. I've always thought it would be an interesting concept to have an online game with no npcs whatsoever, allowing people to form their own societies, maybe different servers for different types of world (medieval, futuristic, modern-day, etc.). It'd be cool to know that anything at all could happen because no one character is limited to a certain number of responses. Sure we don't have the technology to make people think they're in the real world, and no one would make a game that could ACTUALLY kill people, but it may even be better that way. Just imagine being able to disobey every rule there is and still know there is no REAL consequence to anyone, yourself or the one you killed/hurt/whatever. Some would call that a healthy release of urges to break rules done in a controlled environment. Of course on the flipside many would say that would desensitize people to violence and cause people to fall into routines where they never leave the game. I dunno.
"What kind of a monster are you?"I once wrote:My head may be in the clouds, but the view up here is breathtaking.
"The kind that killed your family."
Reality is your friend.
I think the next step is stuff like Dead Rising. Where everything can be used as a weapon, except farther. Items need to be more interective, and should perform like they do in real life. Like instead of having to put that box on panel one, you could blast away part of the cieling on top of that part. Stuff like that.
